Week 3 | Day 2 | Activity 1: Through Careful Observation (Four Points) | Summer Learning Journey

For this activity we had to pick a painting and try and observe as much possible as we could. I chose to do the Day and Night art by M.C Escher. Day 2 is all about 'Cracking the Code'. This activity was inspired by scientists and theorists coming up with new theories (ideas) about how thing would work. They come up with theories through careful observation (hence why the activity is called: through careful observation). I enjoyed this activity.

  1. Hey Farzana! I think this was a very interesting painting created by Mc Escher, and it was fun trying to describe what we see in as much detail. Did you know he has made an art series of paintings including this one, called "Regular Division of the plane". It's really cool, you should check them out! Keep up the good work!

  2. Mālō Ni Farzana,

Ka pai on completing W3D2 Activity 1. You flew through the Summer Learning Journey (SLJ) Activities this summer and I am really enjoying reading all of your blog posts!

Those are some great observations that you've made, about the “Day and Night” painting, you have put a lot of details into this description. Something I noticed is that the ground in the painting is like a chess board, I think that is so creative.

Are there certain sections of this painting that you like in particular?

    Blog ya later,
    Kueni :)

  3. Hi Farzana,
I liked how you described the painting with lots of detail, I also liked how you said that the you carefully observed the painting in order to describe it properly. Would you want to paint something like this?
