Kiwi Can | Positive Relationships

LI: To give things a go.

This week for kiwi can our topic was giving things a go. Giving things a go means building up the confidence to try something new and learning from it. In our school values; CARE stands for Confidence, Attitude, Respect & Excellence & Innovation. This session was based on Confidence.

We first did an energizer. For our energizer we played a game where it encourages us to give that game a go to see if we like it. After that we played our activity were we also built up the confidence to participate.

I enjoyed learning about giving things a go because participating in new things will give you the experience and you might even enjoy it.

Positive Relationships | Kiwi Can

LI: To make positive relationships.

This week for kiwi can we were learning about positive relationships. Today was the first session of Kiwi Can. Positive Relationships is out theme and our topic is 'Fairness & Fair play'.

Energizer; Switch Places
To play switch places we had to make a big circle around Ms. Grace and when someone says "I like... (whatever you like)" and if someone else likes the same thing they have to switch places with someone else. This activity helped encourage fairness and fair play.

Discussion:
After that we had a discussion of our topic (fairness and fair play) and our theme (positive relationships). Positive relationship means; a healthy bond between someone you know. Fairness and fair play means; playing by the rules.

Activity; Pizza Tag
Pizza tag is like the game 'Octopus' except you have to pick four toppings that is common on a pizza. For us we chose: Cheesy Garlic, Hawaiian, Meat Lovers & Pepperoni. I chose to be in the group Cheesy Garlic. Whenever the chef says a topping, e.g: Pepperoni. That team has to run to the other side of the playing field. If you get tagged you are a cook. However, the cook can also move and tag people. This activity was also to help encourage fairness and fair play.

I enjoyed this session of Kiwi Can. My favourite part was the discussion about the topic and theme.

Kiwi Can | Respecting Others Differences

LI: To respect other peoples differences, desires and needs.

This week for kiwi can we were learning how to respect other peoples differences, desires and needs. We first did a recap on last weeks session. We played an energizer which was called 'Mirror, Mirror'.

To play the game we had to get into two lines and face each other. The people we were facing were our partner. One line was the mirror and one line was the person looking in the 'mirror'. The person that was looking in the mirror could do any action and the 'mirror' had to copy them. We had two turns of being the mirror and two turns of being the person doing the actions. After that we talked a bit more about the desires and needs.

We talked to the person next to us about a desire and what a desire meant. A desire is when you have a stong feeling of wanting to do something. My desire was to finish my work and be successfull in life. That is a high desire. After that we went on with our activity.

Our activity was called 'Elimination'. To play the game we had to get into five groups of four. In my group there was: Bella, Shinaye & Jaylee. The first person in the line had to get a ball, pass it to the second person in the line and pass it back. After the last person in the line got the ball they had to go to the semi circle and try to shoot the ball into the hoop.

I enjoyed this weeks session.

Kiwi Can | Respect | Patience

LI: To learn how to be patient.

This week for kiwi can our topic was patience. The definition of patience is: To wait without getting annoyed or frustrated. One of the things that Mr. Semanu explained was that: With patience there comes rewards and consequences.

Energizer-
Our energizer was called 'Snap & Escape'. In partners we had to position our right hand flat towards our partner and point the index and middle finger down to our partners hand. When Mr. Senamu said a key word we had to try to catch our partners index & middle finger like a venus fly trap and then try to not get caught with your middle and index finger.

Activity-
Our activity was about patience. We got seperated into a boys group and a girls group. The girls got into one line and the boys got into one line. When Mr. Senamu squeezed our shoulders we had to pass it on to the person in front of us and the first person to get the cone on the chair got a point. The first group to get 10 points won.

Kiwi Can | Respectful Communication

LI: To learn about respectful communication.

This week for kiwi can we carried on with the respectful communication topic. We discussed the different ways of communication. There are many ways such as: Digital communication, In-person communication, Body language, Sign language and Communication through letters.

For our energizer we played a tournament game. We had to get into partners and on the count of three we had to hold up any amount of fingers in one hand that we wanted to and we had to count the amount of fingers all together. We then talked about respectful communication and how we would talk in different situations.

After that we played our activity. Mr. Semanu put down some cones and he put some music on. When the music was on we had to dance and if we weren't dancing we were out. When the music turned off then we had to grab a cone, sit down and put it on our head. If you didn't manage to do that then you are out.

Our new theme was respect and our topic was respect for ouselves. We started of with a short recap of what our theme was last term. After that we moved on to our energizer.

For our energizer we played this listening game were Mr. Lati and Mr. Semanu said: 'Orange, Apple & Banana'. When they said 'Apple' we had jump forward, for 'Orange' we had to jump backwards and for 'Banana we had to do a 180° turn. After that we had a talk about how we respect ourselves then we got into our activity.

Our activity was called 'One truth and One lie'. We had two minutes to think of a lie and a truth that is hard to guess the truth. Some people went on the steps to present their truth and lie and the rest of us had to go on a side of the room and we got on point if we got it correct. I learnt that Mr. Ogilvie has played golf with Tiger Woods, Mr. Sumanu knows how to dance & Mr. Lati is 32 years old.

I enjoyed this weeks session of kiwi can and I learnt new things about Mr. Lati, Mr. Sumanu and Mr. Ogilvie.

Then we did our energizer which was called 'Balloon Pop'. To play balloon pop we had to think of a food starting with the first letter of our name and we had to throw a ball up in the air and say: (example): 'Penelope likes pear' then someone had to catch the ball and repeat the process but with their name.

For our activity we played 'Bus Stop'. For the activity we had to explain the challenges in the pictures. We had to write down what we thought was the challenge based on the picture and how they might feel.

Our catchphrase was: "Kiwi Can says, when there's a challenge, don't go over it, don't go under it, just go through it and just do it.

The year 5's went to room seven to participate in our kiwi can session. We had a new topic which was 'Dealing with Challenges'. A challenge is a difficult task. We did an energizer were we had to listen to what Ms. Mack was saying and do the action. There were seven actions which were: 'Jump in, jump out, spin around, touch the ground, look up and look down'. It was difficult because Ms. Mack tricked us multiple of times. After the energizer we talked about challenges and what was challenging to us. Then we went to our activity were we got a puzzle and had to create an X shape or a + shape with shapes. We had to think outside the box. No one completed the puzzle but my group got close to making the X shape. Play the puzzle.

Kiwi Can

LI: To develop self control and self discipline.

LS1 group A went to kiwi can for our fifth session. We started with recaping our theme and topic. Our theme is resilience and our topic is self control and self discipline. Resilience means coping with challenges, bouncing back and never giving up.

After the energizer we did our acivity which was called: "Coping Challenges". The first challenge was exercising. For the exercise we had to do five push ups, five squats, five burpees and five pull ups. My group got through one round out of five in a minute because we were learning how to do the proper way of the exercises. Our objective was to do complete the challenges in one minute. Our second challenge was to match the Maori words with the English words for the colours. My group only got five of the words correct. The third challenge was to write the alphabet backwards starting with the letter Z. We got up to M. The last/fourth challenge was to make new actions for the catchphrase. Our catchphrase is: "Kiwi Can says, Control yourself, Don't shout, Kiwi can, Over and out". For the first challenge I copped with the challenge by calming our self down. For the second challenge I copped by trying to remember the Maori colours song. The next challenge I copped by saying the alphabet forwards and then stopping where we were up to. For the last challenge I copped with it by breathing in and out.

I think that the Maori colours was hard because I don't know a lot of Maori colours. I also think that the alphabet challenge was hard because I am more used to the alphabet forwards not backwards. I enjoyed this kiwi can session.

When Mr. Lati called out Rats we both had to try and get it, but if the Rabbit gets it then the Rat losses and if the Rat gets it before the Rabbit the Rat wins. After that we talked more about self control. We then went into our activity.

Our activity was called 'Role plays'. We got a card that said what we had to act out. Our card was a scenario of a teacher who went out of the class and put a student in charge. The classmates had to show self control and self discipline.
