Commenting

LI. To comment and give feedback to other people. Today I commented on Florence's blogpost for writing. I think she did very, very good. But unfortunately her blogpost has to much spaces under the learning intention. I did this activity for writing too. Besides that she had an amazing blogpost.

Multiplication | Division

LI. To practise reciting all your times table. Today for the daily six I decided to do multiplication and division. I did all the seven times table, and the division. I am pretty confident that I can recite all the seven times table untill the 5th one but I still need practise to recite all of them. Learning the times table is important for most people because it can make more impact in your life when you get a job.

Typing | Keyboarding

LI. To practise typing fast. Today I decided to go on a typing test website to test my speed on the home rows. I think I need to go faster and get less errors. I hope in the future I will be able to type fast. You have to place your two index fingers on the letter J and F keys, and then set the other fingers on the next keys. You then try to type.

Area and Perimeter

LI. To investigate the relationship between the perimeter and area of rectangles. This week for maths we had to write the meaning of mathematical words on a glossary. We then had to find the perimeter and area on a digital learning object. After that we got another copy of the digital learning object but a harder version of it and do it physically and not digitally. I found some of the shapes hard to do but I guarantee I did got. I also think most of them are incorrect.

Trebuchet History

LI. To learn about historical things invaders use to get treasure. This week for inquiry we had to make a presentation about the items an invading team use to have a better advantage toward wining a war. We chose trebuchet's which is a very tough type of catapult used in ancient times. We also had to work in groups of four. In my group there was Victoria, Nicole, and Sakina. We each made our own slides based on trebuchets. If you want to see a video about trebuchets go to slide 5 and skip to 1:53 to see when it launches. We all co-operated to find great information on this subject. I feel like the presentation we made was good but some of us should speak louder and to the audience.

Persuasive Writing | Exposition

LI. To identify the structure and language features of exposition text which is a persuasive text type. This week for writing we had to make a copy of a DLO Mr. Wong made and highlight the words that are simple present tense yellow, highlight the words that have emotive words/devices red, And highlight the words that have cause and effect blue. The structure of persuasive text is OREO, it stands for- Opinion, reasons, explanations, and lastly opinion. The reason it has opinion twice is so it could state that opinion again to make people believe that opinion. The language features are simple present, emotive words/devices, and cause and effect words.

Swimming | YMCA Lagoons

Today the year fours went to the YMCA lagoons with Mrs. Prasad in room five. Our lesson for today was to learn how to stay warm in water so we can't get hypothermia or hyperthermia.

We had to put life jackets on. We then went into the water to start our session. James told us to do the pencil dive into the water so we did that. Then James instructed us to float on our backs. Some people struggled to do that because they were scared. But they still tried.

We then made a circle by putting our hands at the bottom of the other persons arm so they can float. We then had to put our knees up. If there are little kids with you, you put them in the middle of the circle to keep them warm.

We then made a chain link while in the water. We had to hold the person in front of us by the opening of the arm and kick the side to go fast. James was impressed with us because we were able to turn and go fast without him pushing us. Our lesson then ended.

Izanagi & Izanami

LI. To identify the purpose of narratives.
LI. To identify the underlying morals/themes/explanations in myths, legends and fairytales. This week for reading we had to pick another story from around the world. This time I picked Izanami and Izanagi because I feel like it is a very interesting story from Japan. I think the message from the story is that you should never keep a secret from the people who actually love you the reason why I think this is because they might never forgive you if it is extreme.

Kiwi Can

Today LS1 group A went to room seven to take part in our kiwi can sessions. Our theme was resilience and our topic was problem solving. We had a little talk about if we feel shy when we ask for something. When I am shy I never ask questions because I feel embarrassed if it is wrong and people might make fun of me or call me 'dumb'.

Then we played our energizer called 'Emergency'. We had to into two even groups then stand behind a circle. I was in group 2. We had to jump on each lily pad and then when two people from both teams come face to face we had to play rock, paper, scissors shoot. If we win that round the person that loses goes to the back of the line to have a turn again. We had to reach six points to win. Every time when it is my turn I reach the second to last lily pad but the person versing me alsways gets me. By the time they had reached two points we had one. But we still never gave up. So we tried our best, but the other team had six points. It was still okay because it was fun.

We then played our activity. The activity was called 'Man Dodgeball'. We had to get into a circle, then Mr. Matt labeled us as a number. My number was four, Mr. Matt asked the fours to go in the middle. The goal for the fours were to not get tagged. Unfortunately I got out. When we finished the game we went into our point system.

Structures | Sunset & CityScape

LI. To learn how to draw a cityscape. Today Mr. Wong thought we should make art for the whole day because Mr. Ogilvie wasn't at school due to sickness. We has the whole day to make this peice of art.

We first made the cityscape digitally and then after morning tea and lunch we made the backgrounds. We used a picture from online and then used different types of shapes to create the cityscape. For the second and last blocks we used coloured paper in order to create the master peice.

I dedicated the art work to sky tower because last week we visited the sky tower, and I found out about lots of new facts about it. I am really proud of this art work because it took a lot of effort to create this.

This artwork is at the time of the sunset that is why I put red backround. We used silhouettes to make the sky tower. The clouds are when you observe the sky when it is sunset and some clouds are orange, yellow, and sometimes light pink.

Multiplication | Division

LI. To practise reciting all your times table. Today for the daily six I decided to do multiplication and division. I did all the six times table. I am pretty confident that I can recite all the six times table without a reminder or looking at something to help me. Learning the times table is important for most people because it can make more impact in your life when you get a job.

Commenting

Today I decided to comment on Xavier's angles blogpost. He did a very good job on the DLO but you can't see the words very well. This is caused by the font. He also had a short learning intention but it was still good. Xavier had good information on his DLO. I also did this activity.
Here is the link to Xavier's blogpost- Angles

Tables Conga | Multiplication

LI. To learn how to multiply. Today I went onto tables conga and did my 2 times table. I had to find 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20 to complete the 2 times tables. I completed it in 1 minute and 1 second. It was very easy to do this. Next time I go on tables conga I am going to do my three times table. I got the level two trophy and I am planning on getting my 9 times table correct.

Keyboarding

LI. To practise the keyboarding skills. Today I went on a website called- Typing Test: Home Row Keys. I used this website to help me with my speed of the home row keys. You have to put your two index fingers onto the letter F and J and then set your other fingers on the neighbors, then put your thumb on the space bar. You then type the letters on the screen and have only 1 minute to type all the letters on the screen. My accuracy was 42%, my speed was 12, and my errors was 7. I think this is a good website to use to write properly.

Technology | Ancient times

LI. To learn about earthworks, fortifications and examples in history. This week for inquiry Mr. Wong's group learnt about technology that people used in historical times. We got into a group of four and worked on a google presentation. In my group there was Victoria, Nicole and Sakina. We had to chose a technology to work on. We had a choice of ramparts, trenches, and hill forts. My group chose ramparts to work on because we think it is a good defensive structure used in historical days. They're usually used to defend a territory or important things like treasure. In the ancient days it was a good option and advantage.

Measuring angles with a protractor

LI. To measure with a protractor. This week for maths we had to use a protractor to measure angles. We had to work in partners my partners were Victoria, Miiana, and Florence. We only had two protractors for each group. We had to measure the parts that has three letters. We had to measure these angles on a worksheet paper. We also had to check in with a teacher so we can check if our measuring is good. We got three or four measurements correct. You use a protractor by aligning the line with the straight angle, and then measure the part that have the words. You should know that you're measuring the angle properly by looking if there the front numbers are skip counting in 10's to 180.

YMCA Lagoon | Swimming

Today we went to the YMCA lagoon with room 5. We learnt that you should never approach the drowning person because they might be panicking and they can push you down. You should also lie down and throw them something to hold and then make sure the person is holding the item, then pull it towards yourself.

We then went to the deep end of the pool we had to practise floating and shouting "HELP". It was a bit to deep for me so I tried using the technique to try and float. I failed a few times but then kept on trying and eventually got the hang of it.

We had to get into partners. My partner was Te Raumati. Each group got a pool noodle to throw at their teammate. We did that a couple of times to get the hang of it. Our lesson then finished, and then we went to school.

Procedural writing | Shapes

LI. To write a procedural text. This week for writing we had to write a procedural text about creating models. We had to use the structure of procedural text which is TEMPS (Title, End result, Materials, pictures, steps). I wrote how to make a rectangular prism with Blu-Tack and toothpicks. It is very easy to make this model. It is also very fun. If you are bored you can make a model so you cant be bored.
Here is the link to my procedural text- How to make a rectangular prism model

Cuchulainn | Ireland myth

LI. To identify the purposes of narratives. This week for reading we had to create a DLO of myths around the world. The following stories are our options- Cuchulainn from Ireland, Lac long Quan from Vietnam, Mahishasura and Durga from India, Izanagi and Izanami from Japan. I chose Cuchulainn from Ireland because the picture used for the story looks interesting and cool. I also want to learn more myths about Ireland because they are very fascinating. We could work in partners. My partner was Victoria but we both did different slide presentations. We both also had interest into the myth.

Sky City | Visit

Image result for sky tower
Today LS1 went to the sky city to learn about the information based on the sky city. We got into our kiwi can, kiwi sport, and library groups. We went separate ways to observe the tower. First we watched a few presentations about the towers. Including- The cost, the year built, the surroundings of the tower, the question, and ect. We had a QNA of top ten questions about the sky tower. When we finished the questions we took a photo and then went on an elevator to the top of the tower. Then the instructer gave us a pencil and an activity sheet of the sky tower. We had to find all of the surroundings of the tower and find the names. There was a keyword list at the very bottom so we could get hints if it was to hard. The ones I filled in was the: Devonport Naval Base, Rangitoto, Port of Auckland, Mt Victoria, Orakei Basin, Auckland university, Mt Wellington, Auckland Museum, Auckland Domain, Auckland Town Hall, Maurgakiekie (One tree hill), Mt Eden, and Aotea Square. The height was 120m, the year built was 1997, and the cost was $75 million.

Commenting

Today I decided to comment on Charlize's blogpost of the writing must do for this week. I liked how she had all the structure and language features. She should add an example for the language features. She also should make the part that says ' Created by Charlize ' the right way round. I did this activity because I was also in the group.
Here is the link to her blogpost- Procedural writing

Daily Six | Keyboarding

LI. To learn the home row keys. This week for daily six I decided to do the home row keys. You have to put your four fingers of the f,d,s,a and j,k,l,; keys. They are called the home row keys. It showed words or sentences with all the home row keys. You have to be able to type fast without looking at the keyboards. It is quite simple to do this. As you go on you get better at typing. If you want to go to this website to learn how to use the home row keys click here.

Multiplication | Division

LI. To remember the basic multipilacation and division equations. This week for daily six I decided to do multipilacation and division equations. I did the 3x tables. Doing the multiplication facts are good for you but also doing the division with the multiplication facts are better. It can impact your life because when you are older and you're looking for a job, they might ask you questions about multiplication and division facts and if you don't know them you might not get the job.

Swimming | Ocean Safety

Today we went to the YMCA Lagoons to learn about water safety. We learnt about how the rip looks calm, but underneath the rip the water it will push you out to sea. We can get away from the rip by swimming diagonally, and also use the current to get away to shore.

Our teacher Jason, asked us to swim on our backs and go to the other platform by swimming on our backs, we also had to use our hands to make us move. Then we had to go under the pool and try to swim to the platform. I managed to swim to the platform.

If we go to a river and get caught in the river because of the current, you must never swim with your head first because you might hit your head on a rock and end up with a broken skull. That is why you must swim with your feet first. Even if you have a broken leg, it is better than having a broken skull. If you get a small cut on your head it can bleed a lot because your brain uses a lot of blood, and needs blood around your head.

We also learnt about why we can't swim under the platform. You can't swim under a platform because your togs can get stuck on the handles and your lungs can't hold your breath to long. You can drown because of this.

Procedural Writing | Structure & Language Features

LI. To identify the structure & language features of a procedural text. This week for writing we had to create a DLO about the structure & language features of a procedural text. I knew most of the things but didn't know a few things. The structure of a procedural text is TEMPS. It stands for- Title, End result, Materials used, Picture, and Steps. The purpose of a procedural text is to remind yourself or other people how do make or do something. In the beginning of the sentense you put a verb on. There are also more things you need to do.
Here is the link to the website we used- Origami Paper Cat

10 Bridges Around The World | International Bridges

LI. To find 6-10 maps around the world and find information about the bridges. This week for inquiry we had to make a google map creation and find 10 bridges around other countries and also continents. I chose the, Te rewa rewa bridge, Sydney harbour bridge, Panmure Bridge, Storseisundet bridge, Golden gate bridge, Auckland harbour bridge, Northern gateway toll bridge, Royal gorge bridge, Tower bridge, and the Brooklyn bridge. I had to find out the: Year built, Cost, Materials, Type of bridge, and the Length width and height.

Maui and the Sun

LI. To identify the purpose of a narrative. This week for reading we had to read a Maui story. The story is about Maui hating the sun and forcing the sun to slow down. The sun was so fast giving the villagers and advanced time to either work, cook, and ect. In the slides I had information about the purposes of the Maui stories, and also my summary I made.

Angles | Obtuse & Acute

LI. To identify and construct right, acute and obtuse angles. This week for maths we had to find angles around the classroom. We had to make a google presentation to show the angles which were- Acute, Right, Obtuse, Straight, and Reflex. We all had to use different objects for each angles. I found all of them a little bit easy but the reflex angle was the hardest to me because I don't think there is much reflex angles in the classroom. I used a book, bookmark, my computer, scissors, and my fingers to show an example of the angles. I realized that angles are almost everywhere in my life. An acute angle is 0-90 degrees, a right angle is 90 degrees, an obtuse angle is 90-180 degrees, a straight angle is 180 degrees, and a reflex angle is 180-360 degrees. At first I didn't understand somethings that Mr. Ogilvie was talking about so I asked for some help and understood. I found this activity fun.

Commenting

Today I decided to comment on Sila's swimming blogpost. She had a great blogpost but if she added more detail it would be absolutely fabulous. She had put a good amount of effort into the great blogpost. Hypothermia & Hyperthermia is a very hazardous thing that could happen to you. So you should learn more about it because it may lead to injuries.

SNAG Golf

Yesterday on Wednesday we went to the hall to play SNAG golf also known as Starting New At Golf. We had to get into groups of three. In my group was- Charlize, and Kaitlyn. We used the putturs because Mr. Wong thought we were ready. First we had to roll the ball with our hands and try to get the ball on the target. After that we used the putter. Mr. Wong demenstrated how to use the putter. Mr. Johnson then came with a speaker and a microphone and then Mr. Wong hit the ball and got a SNAG and Mr. Johnson said 'And A SNAG from Mr. Wong!!'. Mr. Wong went again because you get three chanses, Mr. Wong got another SNAG. Mr. Johnson then said 'Another SNAG from the amazing Mr. Wong!!', He went again but missed. That was a good twist, we were never expecting that. Then we went back on to what we were meant to do. We used the putter to get the ball on the target as usual. After everyone in the team got three turns, we got the flag and then positioned it in front of the target. We had to shout FLAG when the ball sticked to the flag. I was the only one to get a flag in my group, but that was still okay because we tried.

International and National bridges.

LI. To Compare and Contrast Panmure Bridge to a local equivalent.
LI. Compare and Contrast Panmrue Bridge to an international equivalent.
This week for inquiry we had to compare and contrast national bridges, and international bridges. We also had to work with partners, my partner was Victoria. We had to use our Smart Searching skills in order to get the information we needed. Victoria and I chose the Te rewa rewa bridge. And then we chose the Storseisundet bridge. We had to find out the- Year built, Length (Span), Height, Width, Cost, Materials, and the extra one which is the Type Of Bridge.

Narrative Planner | Water Trouble

LI. To write a quick narrative. This week for writing we had to write a narrative about a picture we chose. The picture I chose is a image of a girl trying to get to the other rock but can't reach her goal and makes a plan to get to the other rock. At the end of the story the girl reaches her goal by getting into her togs and swimming to the other side. I made sure to use TOPES (Title, Oreintasion, Problem, Events, and Sulution). I also used the steps to make a narrative which is- BPEDP (Brainstorm, Plan, Edit, Draft, and Publish).
Here is the link to my narrative- Water Trouble

Smart Media

LI. To identify that media is a construction. This week for cybersmart we had to take pictures that we think is suitible for friend & family, and suitible for a blogbpost. Then we had to make a word art with words we think suits the photos. I took a picture with my friends then put it suitible for friends & family.
Then I took a picture that is suitible for a blogpost. We had to do about 20 words.

Kiwi Can | Goal Setting | Resilience

Today we went to room seven to for kiwi can. We lined up at 9:45 and then walked to room seven. When we got there we had to get into three lines. We recaped what we did last week. Last week for Kiwi Can we focused on why goal setting is important. Our theme is 'resilience', and our topic is 'goal setting'. We learnt that when you try to reach your goals you can learn from your mistakes. There is also people or things that stop you from reaching your goal.

When we finished talking about our theme and topic, We played our energizer called 'snatch'. There was a rope that formed a circle and we weren't allowed to go inside. There was cones inside the circle. Miss Lily put music and then we had to walk clockwise and dance. When Miss Lily stopped the music we had to run inside the circle then get a cone. Our goal for this energizer was to get a cone.

When we finished the energizer, we then talked more about our topic and theme. Resilience means when you bounce back and never give up. Showing resilience when your old is very good because you can teach kids and also people older than you to never give up and be a role model.

After that we played our activity called 'Octopus'. There was a girl side and a boy side, so it was girls vs boys. Mr. Latu was the octopus first, he put a hula hoop in the middle of the classroom. Mr. Latu went in the hula hoop with two pool noodles. Once he got inside the hula hoop he couldn't step out. He Mr. Latu's goal was to get us out, but our goal was to reach the other side of the classroom without getting touched by the octopus.

Then we all sat down again to end the session. We had to do our catchphrase for this week. Our catchphrase is "Kiwi can says, never give up, acheive you goal, make a plan, because you can!". Then we went into our point system. Last week we got 24/25 points. This week our goal was to get 25 points. Unfortunately we got 22/25 points. But we did get 22 which is still good.

Lessons Tengu Teaches

LI. To create a DLO about the lessons Tengu teaches. This week for reading we had to create a DLO about the stories of Tengu's lessons. In the DLO there is- The Tengu's Magic Cloak, The Tengu's Fan, The Tengu's Gourd, and The Old Man's Lump. All the stories are about Tengu's punishments and consequences he gives to the people who are arrogant. The purpose of the stories are to never be prideful of yourself because one way or another a person can be better than you at something else. Prideful means when you think your better than another person or people.

Maths Model of 3D shapes

LI. To construct 5-6 3D shapes using tooth picks and blue tack. This week for maths we had to make 3D shapes with tooth picks and blue tack, we had to make 1 3D shape within 3 minutes. We had to get the tooth picks and put blue tack on the end and stick it to another tooth pick in order to make a 3D shape. 3D shapes usually have more corners and faces than 2D shapes. We had to work with partners, my partner is Nicole. We created a pyramid, cube, rectangular prism, triangular prism, and a pentagonal bipyramid. I created the rectangular prism, the triangular pyramid, and the pentagonal bipyramid. Nicole made the cube, and the triangular prism.

Commenting

Today I decided to comment on Andrew's inquiry blogpost. I think he did well, but Andrew repeated himself on slide 3. But everything else was good. He had a great Learning Intention, and the information in his blogpost was also great. He also had a good amount of effort into his blogpost. He also did have three reasons the Panmure Bridge is impactful for people in the area, and he did say how he thinks the Panmure Bridge is going to turn out in the future.
Here is the link to Andrews blogpost- Panmure Bridge

Panmure Bridge | Changes 1865-2018

LI. To identify the changes between the Panmure Bridge. This week for inquiry we had to make a google presentation, then use our smart searching skills to find information about the Panmure Bridge. We worked in groups of three, I worked with Florence, and Victoria. We had to tell how the changes were impactful to the people around the area, we had to identify the changes, and we had to tell how we think it is gonna be in the future and the design. We also had to find images of the Panmure Bridge, and then write how the images interest you. Yesterday we did an activity for inquiry. It was called 'I see, I think, I wonder'. We had to walk around the classroom and get a felt tip, then write down what you see, think, and wonder.

Narrative | Plan

LI. To write a quick narrative.

This week for writing we had to write a narrative. We had to brain storm and then plan. To plan we used a backwards "s". The image of the girl and boy is the one we are writing about. The story is about how a 10 year old girl and a 19 year old boy is lost in a hiking place. The parents didn't realize that they were lost. In the solution they find them by saying "Help" and then Jess realizes that the figure might be a wild bear. At the end they all live a new normal.
Here is the link to my narrative - Campfire

Swimming | Kiwi Sport

LI. To learn how to swim safetly.

Today we the year fours in LS1 went to the YMCA lagoon with room five. We had to get changed and then go into room five. We all lined up and went into the bus to get to our destination. When we arrived at the YMCA lagoon center, we had to take our school clothes of and wait until the other class rooms get out of the pool.

After waiting we had to do our safe entry. James told us to do the 'Torpedo'. I tried to do it, but unfortunately I didn't go from one platform to the other. After that we had to dive near the bottom and go through a hula hoop. We did that a few times and then stopped. We had to put our face down and then float.

We also practised floating on our backs. We also had to kick when we were floating on our backs and floating on our stomach. After that we had to float on our backs again and then put our arms beside ourself.

Smart Media | Media is a construction

Kiwi Can

Today LS1 group A went to room seven for kiwi can. When we got there we went straight into our energizer. The name of our energizer is 'Tag Snatch'. We had to get a tag and then when the game started we had to snatch the tag of the other people's pocket. When we finished the energizer we talked a bit about goal setting. We have goals so we can get a better future or be a role model in the future. Then we played our activity. The name of our activity is called 'Ball Trouble'. We had to partner up with someone, then we had to wait for our turn so we can get a ball and travel to the other side of the classroom. My partner was Oscar. We struggled to get to the other side, so when we reached the other side I pushed back and we went fast and went to the end. After that we played GKQ (General Knowledge Questions). The first four went. I went in the first four. The question was- "Who is the person in the 5 dollar note?" I did the buzer and answered- "Sir Edmund Hillary".
