I did the speed demon challenge up to 20 and my time was four minutes fourty nine seconds.
I enjoyed answering the questions and hope that I can do it by the time 3 minutes come.

SSR Selfie

LI: To summarise and retell a text.

The book I read was about force & motion and the physics to it. The book I read had a lot of new words for me like: Lubrication, friction and more. I enjoyed the book and learnt new information about force and motion.

Reading | Theatre | Play

LI: To build vocabulary and expression.

We were doing plays based on the theatre subject. The play I did was 'In Training'. I enjoyed my parts the most because I got to take part in the play. I think the most difficut part was remembering the time I went on the stage. I think I should change my timing and expression. I think my oral language did improve because I was more focused on it. I think it would help if the teacher would tell me what to do during the stage presence.

Maths | Capacity

LI: To measure and work out different capacities.

Capacity is how much an object can hold. We had to complete an slide about measuring capacities and word promlems. We solved the word promblems after the slide task. To solve the word problems we used paper and vivid. Mr. Wong gave us guiding questions which were: What is the promblem asking you to figure out, What information do we already have, Can you solve this in one step.

Kiwi Sport | Gymnastics

LI: To develop body movement of balance, rotation, & strength.

Today the year fives went to the hall for the fourth gymnastics session. The first thing that we did was get into our stretches.

Stretches:
1. L Shape: Lifting your arms up to the ceiling then putting you legs in front of you.

2. Seal: Putting you back straight and looking towards the floor.

3. Butterfly: Putting you feet together and flapping it up and down.

4. Cat Stretch: Stretch your back like a cat and stretching your head until you can see the wall behind you.
5. Straddle: Position your legs to face outwards like a split shape.

6. Back, Front, Side Support: Position your back to be straight and your back towards the floor with your hands pointing to your feet and do the same with the others.

7. Candle shape: Lift your legs using the muscles and place your hands on your back then put your elbows on the floor.

Activity:
After that we went on to the rotations. The rotation parts were the:
Balancing station, the Postion station, and the Strength station.

Rotations:
At the balancing station half way on the beam we had to take a big jump and then walk back on to the stage, cartwheel along the blue beam, do the foward roll off the stage, do the bunny hop, and then do the roll on the beam.

At the position station we had to run up to a trampoline and do a straight jump land on your feet then do a forward roll after you have jumped, do the backwards roll on a right angled triange, do the backwards roll on the mat, then do the candle shape on the floor, then the two leg handstand twice and do the staight jump.

At the strength station we had to do a handstand on a bar, do the back/front/side support on a hexagon stick, balance of the parallel bars, lift yourself over the bar and then do mini pushups on a cube.

Reflection:
I enjoyed this weeks session and I thought the back/front/side support on a hexagon stick was difficult to complete.

Learn, Create & Share | Explanation | Procedure

LI: To use key vocabulary to unlock sentence & text structure.

An explanation is how it works or why it happens. A procedure is how to learn, how to make or how to share something step by step. The structure of an explanation is TIMES (Title, Introduction, Meaningful information, Ending, Summary). The structure of a procedure is TEMPS (Title, Example, Main points, Picture, Steps). We had to write a explanation and a procedure. We used google docs and our Netbooks to complete this. We picked out three standing words that we think of when someone says the words: Learn, Create & Share. I enjoyed this activity.

Meme | Collaboration

LI: To collaborate on a task.

Collaboration is when people join together to get work or something in general complete. We had to make our own meme with a person about collaboration. I was working with Bella. We had to make a meme from scratch. We used a google drawing and a webcam to create our meme. I enjoyed creating a meme.

Patupaiarehe | Moari

LI: To learn about Patupaiarehe.

First we watched a video about a story of Rangi and Paapa. The story was about how Tane and his brothers seperated Rangi & Paapa. It was also about how Tane was doing a haka and accidentally spilt out a bag of stars. There was still not enough light so Tane placed the moon and there was still not enough of light so Tane placed the sun and then there was enough light.

Space Travel | Inquiry

LI: To understand what is needed for space travel.

We did a scientific experiment about rockets and we also created rockets. We decided what to change about our rockets and made a hypothisis (prediction). We had to test the rockets at least three times to make sure the experiment was accurate. We did it by measuring the distance of the rockets. Our hypothisis was correct. I learnt that the polystyrene rocket worked the best. I enjoyed this experiment.

Stardome Planetarium Trip

The Stardome Planetaruim trip gave us an opportunity to learn more about outer space, planets, and the solar system. Our instructor's name was John. He explained to us what we were going to do. We had three parts to the trip. The first part we were in a theatre and learning about the planets and the parts of it. The second part we did a quiz about space and there were information about all of the questions on the walls. We did this in groups of five. In my group there was Fau, Charlize, Alayah, and Salina. There were only seven questions and we got six out of seven questions correct. The last part was the planetarium were we sat on chairs and looked up to see a large sized screen. On the screen there was a long video explaining the weather of the planets in our solar system. We did talk about the dwarf planets too. The dwarf planets are: Pluto, Ceres, Makemake, Haumea, and Eris. The planets are very interesting and taught me a lot of facts about space. Mercury, Venus, Earth, & Mars are the rocky planets. Jupiter and Saturn are called the gas giants. Uranus and Neptune are called the ice giants. One thing that I learnt from the trip is that our solar system is like two plates joined together. I enjoyed this trip and learnt a lot about space.

Kiwi Can | Responsibility

LI: To do things without being asked.

Our theme for kiwi can is Integrity and our topic is responsibility. We spoke as a group about the different responsibilities we also had to define what responsible is. Responsible is when you do something without being told to it.

After that we went on to our energizer which was called 'Responsibility Web'. We used tangled skipping ropes for the web and balanced the ball in the center of the skipping ropes. We balanced the ball by working together. Once it was balanced we had to perform a simple task which was to walk to the other side of the room without the ball dropping.

Our catchphrase was: " Kiwi Can says, Responsible is what I am, and that's the way of Kiwi Can!

I enjoyed this weeks session. My favourite part was the activity although my team didn't get the ball to the other side of the room.

Mount Maunganui is a mountain in Tauranga. The Hunua and Waitakere ranges are mountains in Auckland. Patupaiarehe are fairies that lived on the mountains in Maori myths.

I learned about the Patupaiarehe and mountains by listening to two stories. The legend of Mauoa and the Turehu wars. I learned where the maountains are by looking on Google maps. We created a document on the definition of Patupaiarehe.

Definitions:
What is a Patupaiarehe?
A patupaiarehe is a pale white fairy that have magic powers that humans don't have. They are bush dwellers. They only come out at night and are scared of the sun as the heat will burn their skin. They usually live in the shadows of a forest. These creatures helped form Mauoa by dragging it into Tauranga. Patupaiarehe can be naughty, nice and all types of other things.

I enjoyed this activity.

Expanding Horizons | Maths

LI: To learn part addition and place value addition.

Today my group and I finished of our chart of expanding horizons. There was four questions in total. We did two examples on place value adding and two examples on adding in parts. When you do place value adding you first have to add the ones, then tens, then hundreds, then maybe thousands. When you add in parts you try to get tidy numbers or even super tidy numbers. A tidy number is a number ending in zero and a super tidy number is a number ending with more than one zero. I think place value adding is easier. I enjoyed adding in parts and place value adding.
