SLJ Commenting

This week for the summer learning journey I decided to comment on Sakina. Sakina has finished all of the SLJ tasks. Sakina has done very well during the four weeks. Here is the link to her

Week 4 | Day 5 | Activity 3: Concluding the Journey (Six Points) | Summer Learning Journey

For this activity we were asked to reflect on everything we learned/experienced during the programme. The Summer Learning Journey (SLJ) has come to an end sadly. We had to include: Which activity we enjoyed the most, Which activity we enjoyed the least, Three things we learned while completing the programme & The Changes/Improvements we would make to the programme for next year. I really enjoyed the activities and learnt many things during it. The Summer Learning Journey is very cool and a great way to get students to keep their smartness up during the holidays.

Week 4 | Day 5 | Activity 2: En Pointe (Four Points) | Summer Learning Journey

I think that this quote means always learn from your mistakes (past), get something accomplished in the present (present) and don't make that mistake again in the future (future). I also think that it means try and adapt from that mistake.

For this activity we were asked to pick one inspirational quote out of 25 quotes. I picked the quote above that is from Albert Einstein. We had to write about what we think the quote means to us. This activity was inspired by Misty Copeland. Misty Copeland is a successful ballerina that started at the age of 13. By the time Misty was 14 she had won national competition for ballet dancers. Misty was working hard and in 2015 she became the first African American lead dancer of the American Ballet Theatre. This was a good accomplishment because there were very few African American ballet dancers. Misty said that she would like it if people were able to "see dreams through me" which was an example of an inspirational quote.

Week 4 | Day 5 | Activity 1: The World of Hip Hop (Four Points) | Summer Learning Journey

The Royal Family Dance Crew Review: I think that the dance was really good! The best part in my opinion was how the dance crew was on the beat of the music. The whole dance had very good choreography which is really good! All of the crew was working together and they were super synced together. I think that the crew didn't have any flaws or mistakes which again, is very good. The neon pink costumes were very bright which I think, they used to get the audience looking at them since it was dark. I personally think that they did deserve the Mega Crew 1st place award for 2019.  I don't have any feedback. The dance was performed well! You can watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=248&v=-mKzJIW9w2c

For this activity we were reviewing The Royal Family Dance Crew performance. We watched a video of The Royal Family Dance Crew award winning performance. After watching the video we had to write our own review. In the review we were asked to include: What we liked about the performance, what the dance crew did well and what they could work on. This activity was based on Parris Goebel, the choreographer of The Royal Family Dance Crew. Parris Goebel was a very good dancer from New Zealand. Parris was born in Manurewa, South Auckland, New Zealand. She was liked dancing a lot when she was younger and she started hip hop by the time she was 10 y/o. When Parris Goebel was 15 she was so good at dancing she started her own dance group of all girls called 'ReQuest'. ReQuest won many first places at the World Hip-Hop Champions. Parris Goebel worked as a choreographer for famous musicians such as: Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna & Janet Jackson.

Week 4 | Day 4 | Activity 3: Top Secret Street Art (Six Points) | Summer Learning Journey

For this activity we were asked to chose two out of many street arts and compare them. We had to write two differences and one similarity. This activity was inspired by Banksy. Banksy is an influential artist from England. He is very secretive and very little people know about who he really is; he creates his art in secret. Banksy uses stencils to create his art. A stencil is a thin sheet made of: plastic, metal or card.

Week 4 | Day 4 | Activity 2: Try Your Own Tapa (Four Points) | Summer Learning Journey

This is the tapa I created. My tapa has my background. The four stars in the middle of the tapa represent the New Zealand flag and where I live currently. The two coloured rectangles are the Afghan flag. The sign beside the stars are my astrology sign; Cancer the Crab. The arabic writing says 'Allah' which translates to: 'God'. On the corners from the left hand side on the top and on the right hand side on the bottom is a silhouette of Afghanistan where I am from.

For this activity we were asked to make our own tapa art. We had to explain what they represent. This activity was inspired by Fatu Feu'u. Fatu Feu'u is a Samoan artist that lives in NZ. Fatu creates sculptures, painting, pottery, prints and glass work. What Fatu is commonly known for is painting. Fatu is influenced by tapa art and more artistic things.

Week 4 | Day 4 | Activity 1: Fashion Forward (Four Points) | Summer Learning Journey

Twenty Seven Names got their name from writing down the names of the people who helped get that label going and there were 27 Names total on the piece of paper. So, they decided to go with the name 'Twenty Seven Names' for their clothing brand. I think that this name should stay as 'Twenty Seven Names' because it has a really good background of how the name got its place. I think the name means a lot to the clothing line and it would be a good story to talk about.

For this activity we were asked to write about our thoughts on the name of the clothing brand in NZ 'Twenty Seven Names'. Twenty Seven Names is a clothing brand that sells clothes for women. The two founders were friends in primary school. The founders are: Rachel Easting and Anjali Burnett. We looked at an article that has the backstory of how some of New Zealand brands got their name.

Week 4 | Day 3 | Activity 3: Feast or Famine (Six Points) | Summer Learning Jouney

Would you do consider doing a 20 or 40 hour famine?

I would do a 40 hour famine. It would be really beneficial and cool because if you participate you are helping refugees! I think that it would really help if others participated in the 40 hour famine and influence others to participate in it.  It would raise a lot of money to help refugees and make a life changing difference for the better.

For this activity we were asked to talk about whether we would like to participate in the 40 hour famine. A forty hour famine is a challenge were you take on not eating for forty hours. This activity was inspired by Julian Dennison. Julian is a very humorous New Zealander. You might know Julian well in the movie 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople'. Julian is in TV commercials and a fair amount of movies. Julian was an ambassador for the World Vision 40 Hour Famine, because he was an ambassador Julian went to South Sudan.

Week 4 | Day 3 | Activity 2: Plot Points (Four Points) | Summer Learning Journey

Movie Summary: A normal 15 year old girl named "Heather", finds out that she possesses a super power after she starts year 11 in her college. She ended up at the school due to her dad finding a new job in L.A (Los Angeles). You see, Heather's dad was a single dad after Heather's mother unfortunately died due to cancer. You may be wondering,: What is the super power that Heather possesses? Well, Heather has 'precognition'. A power that makes you know what is going to happen in the future. Heather finds out by getting a dream that looked normal. The dream later in the day became reality when the exact same things as the dream were happening in real life. Heather thought that is was 'Deja Vu', but it kept on happening consistently to the point were it happened every night during her sleep. This drove her into thinking this wasn't just daja vu. When Heather got a bad dream she planned that she was going to help provent that bad thing that was going to happen. So, as planned she didn't let it happen. She researched about it all night. Heather came across the word 'Precognition'. She looked it up and found out that she had precognition. At the end of the movie she helped provent the bad things from happening.

For this activity we were asked to imagine that we had the chance to write our own movie. The name of my movie is: "Deja Vu". We wrote a summary of our movie to explain our movie. We were asked to include: the main events, the major characters and ect. This activity was inspired by Lupita Nyong'o. Lupita Nyong'o is a Mexican-Kenyan actress. She was cast in her first American film called: East River. She continued to write, produce and star in many films.

Week 4 | Day 3 | Activity 1: Talk Show Host (Four Points) | Summer Learning Journey

For this activity we were asked to talk about our plans in the future. We could talk about our dream jobs, if we want to continue studying or get a job right away after college and ect. I would like to get a job after I complete university. My dream job is to become a General Practitioner doctor. My dad also wanted me to become a doctor. I asked my dad which doctor he wanted me to be but he just said "Any docter, as long as you are any type of doctor". This activity was inspired by Oprah Winfrey. Oprah Winfrey was the host of 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' that ran for 25 years! Oprah worked very hard for a successful career and she got it! She also started a school in South Africa called 'The Oprah Winfrey Leadership School for Girls'.

Week 4 | Day 2 | Activity 3: Girl Power (Six Points) | Summer Learning Journey

She was one of the best sapranos (highest singing voice).

Opinion about BTS: I really don't mind BTS at all, but I can say that I am not a fan of BTS. I think that most of their songs aren't bad. I do admit that I don't understand what they are saying because they are singing in korean. Some of their songs aren't my type in music. I like how all the members have their differences, so they aren't all the same. I also like how they could handle situations professionally which is very good as a role model.

For this activity we were asked to write about our opinions about the world wide known k-pop group, BTS (Bangtan Boys). BTS has a big fan group world wide called the A.R.M.Y. I know BTS very well but I don't think that I am a fan of BTS, I don't mind BTS either. In our opinions we were asked to not just state that we don't like them or we like them, we had to talk about the things we liked and the things we didn't like about the group. BTS has sold over 15 million albums world wide! That made BTS the best selling artists in South Korea.

Week 4 | Day 2 | Activity 1: Getting Stronger (Four Points) | Summer Learning Journey

For this activity we were asked to list our top five favourite artists and songs. I did top 5 favourite artist and then I did the top 5 favourite songs. Not all of my favourite songs are sang by my favourite artists. This activity was inspired by the Samoan-Indian singer, Aaradhna (Aaradhna Jayantilal Patel). She is from New Zealand but sings traditional Samoan and country songs along with her family.

I wrote about how my family and I went to the Skyline in Rotorua after we came from our camping trip. This activity was inspired by Anne Frank. Anne Frank and her family were forced to hide in World War II due to the German people. The German people didn't like Jewish people and Anne was Jewish.

I enjoyed this activity.
