Animation | Addition

LI. To complete four tasks over four weeks.
This week for maths I chose to do addition with an animation. I did this by using algorithm. We had to add 6 digit numbers. My equation was: 900,000 + 800,000 = ?. My animation took a long time but it worked out and it came out better than I expected it to be. I was quite happy with my animation and I put a lot of effort in it. I really enjoyed the process of making my animation.

Verb Words

LI. To identify verb tenses.
This wee for writing we were looking at verb tenses which are: Past Continuous, Future Continuous, and Simple Present. We had to make a DLO and write 20 words that we didn't use last week. We also worked in partners. I partnered with Alayah. We had to create videos of seven words that we had picked. We also wrote sentences about the words we chose. I enjoyed this activity because we got to make videos.

Peace | Slideshow

LI. To explore some definitions of peace.
This week for inquiry we had to partner up in to groups of five and write antonyms and synonyms of the word 'Peace'. We then had to split our group into two groups with two in one group and three in one group. First I was with Giovanni, Akuhata, Lorenzo, and Liletina. Then we split up to Liletina, Lorenzo, and I. We had to write down sentences with the words we wrote on the slide to describe the images. We then had to write down what we then the people in the photos are thinking and their perspectives. After that we made DLO's about what we think peace means. I think peace is when people have calmness around their environments and place. I also think peace means when people come together to connect with each other whether they are different gender, skin tone, and religion. I enjoyed making the DLO. I also enjoyed writing down the sentences with my group.

Inferring thoughts and emotions | Movie

LI. To infer thought and emotions. This week for reading we had to make inferences on a short film called 'For the birds'. Inference is when you figure out a new idea by getting hints from a story or video with out the author directly saying it. We had to take a screenshot of the part on where we made an inference and then link the time on the film. We then had to write down our inferences on the text box then put our evidence in bullet points. We made two inferences with our whole class. Then we made an inference with our reading group, after that we had to do as many as we can or want by ourselves. I enjoyed the activity because we watched a film with it, and the film was funny.

Athletics Day | Sprint Finals

LI. To have fun and do activities for a day.

Today our school did a bunch of activities for athletics day. The activities were: Eggs and spoon, Rest/Dance, Frisbee throwing, Lifesaver, Discus, Softball, Sponge Relay, Rob the Nest, and Long Jump.

We first did: Dance/Rest, Eggs & Spoon, Frisbee throwing, Rob the Nest, Long Jump, Softball, Discus and Lifesavers last. It was very fun and I enjoyed it a lot. My favourite activity was the Sponge relay. It was my favourite because we got wet and it was super sunny and hot. The Tamaki College students helped us with the activities.

For the activities we had to: run from a distance or jump from where you are, run for the ball when you hear the starter, dance or rest, get into a bag jump to the sponge roll under the stick and then jump over the rope and dip your sponge into the bucket of water, rob the nest and tag people, throw the softball as far as you can get, and throw the hula hoop on the cone, cricket, or on the stick.

I enjoyed the whole day including the race although I didn't come first or second. I hope we do athletics next hear!

Kiwi Sport | Boxing

LI. To learn the four types of defence. This week for kiwi sport we went into the hall to take part of boxing. We learnt about four types of defences. We played a game called 'Snatch Cone'.

We had to snatch the cone and do activities before that. I won all of the round which was pretty impessive for me. After we did the game we did the defences. We already learnt about two of the defences.

The guard was like the rock position. You just had to put your gloves on your head. You also had to see in front of you by leaving a gap in between your arms. The second one was called a bridge. You had to move back by putting your right foot back and sliding your left foot and bridging out of the way. The third defence was called slip. You had to nudge to your left or right thigh and the noodle has to go on your shoulder. The fourth defence was called the roll. Our partner had to hold the noodle on our right shoulder and then had to keep it on the place. Where as we had to roll under the noodle and the noodle had to come on our shoulder. We then ended the session.

It was fun and enjoyable. I really enjoyed the session and I hope we can do the defences again.

Commenting

LI. To give feedback to people's blogpost. This week for commenting I decided to comment on Angelica's blogpost about her reading activity. I liked her DLO, but it just went straight in to the questions and didn't tell me what's going on. The blurb didn't have 'I' with a capital. Angelica's DLO was pretty good though.

Alisha got eliminated so it was down to four people. Fau and Charlize won the round. I think the whole lesson in the game was to respect other people in the game. We then had a quick chat about respect for our community which was our topic.

Mr. Matt asked us how do you respect the community? Some people answered: picking up rubbish, caring for our community and ect. Mr. Matt then asked us what is in our community? People answered: Dairy's, shops, pools, libraries, and ect. We then got into our activity which was 'Hand Soccer'.

First we did the: Jab, jab, cross. For the jab's we had to punch with our left hand forwards and for the cross we had to punch with our right hand forward. We then did the combo: Jab, cross, left hook, cross. It was like a pattern left hand, right hand, left hand, right hand. For the left hook we had to twist in our rock position and punch sideways with our left hand and come back in our rock position. We then did the combo: Jab, cross, left hook, right hook, left upper cut, and right upper cut. It was like another pattern: Left hand, right hand, left hand, right hand, left hand, right hand. We had pool noodles to hit with the boxing gloves. We also had to move the pool noodles for the punches. Then we did all of that again for our other partner. We then had to go back to class.

Kiwi Can

Today we went to kiwi can to learn about respecting our community. First we talked about what's in the community and who helps us in our community. After that we played our energizer which was called 'Remote'.

For this energizer we had to do an action that Mr. Matt told us to do when he says the word for it. For example: Mr. Matt shouts "Play" we had to walk, "Fast forward" we had to walk fast, "Pause" we had to jump up, "Rewind" we had to walk backwards, and later on we added "Stop" to the game and we had to lie down on our stomachs. However, he could trick us and say "Freeze" and if we hesitate we are out. After playing that we went into our activity wich was 'Invisible tag".

Mr. Matt gave us a number and then we had to go in a team called 'one' or 'two' I was in team two. We lined up and went outside to the court and Mr. Matt explained the rules. Mr. Matt called out a number and that amount of people in the front of the line had to run arount their hoops. Mr. Matt then called out a persons name, that person had the invisible ball. They had to run and not get tagged from the other people in the other team and score a try. But, if you do get tagged you can't tag back. We then had to go back to class because the bell rang.

Manaikalani Film Festival

On the 7th of November our school went to Sylvia Park HOYTS to take part of the Manaikalani Film Festival.

When the movie started our one was first. Fau was the presenter for our movie. She was really good and confident. I was really exited to see our final results on our movie. It was a bad dubbed karate movie. It was also really funny and I laughed a lot. It was about Fau and Charlize fighting with Victoria and Alayah. Then Mr. Johnston (the principle) comes in and stops them, they then have to go to the principle's office. After watching the movie it turned out really good.

Although it was short, it was a really funny and cool movie. I enjoyed watching the movie and laughed a lot during the movie.

Quatrefoils | Art

LI. To create three different size Quatrefoils about Christmas, Armistice day and Max Gimbletts artwork. This week for art we had to create three different quatrefoils with different themes. We first did this digitally and then after that we made them with paint, pastels, and colouring pencils. The top quatrefoil was the smallest paper, the second one is the medium size, the last one is the largest paper. The smallest was the Christmas theme with colouring pencils, the middle is the Armistice day theme with pastels, and the last one is the Max Gimblett theme quatrefoil. I really enjoyed this activity, although it took a week for us to finish. I think that my quatrefoils turned out better than I expected.

For the biggest quatrefoil we used paint. The black paint for the biggest quatrefoil represents the explosive paint that Max Gimblett does and the green and red represents the Flanders fields. For the medium sized quatrefoil we used pastels. The medium sized quatrefoil represents the soldiers singing the last post for the soldiers. The reason why I used gold for the background was because I think that the soldiers who died are gold. For the smallest quatrefoil we used coloured pencils. The holly on the smallest quatrefoil represents the Jesus. The ornaments represent the shimmer of the trees.

We first looked at three weapons in WW1 used in the air, sea, and land. For the air weapons I chose: Zeppelins, parachutes, and planes. For the sea weapons I chose: Submarines, naval mines, and battle ships. For the land weapons I chose: Pistols, hand grenades, and tanks. After finishing that I went to the timeline of battles of WW1. We had to find answers to some questions that Mr. Ogilvie made. We used a two sites called: The world war and Great war. I enjoyed this activity and I learnt new interesting facts about WW1.

This week for writing we had to go back to our writing from last week and evaluate our story and highlight all the structure and language features. It was pretty simple. We also had to get and give feedback to others. We gave our chromebooks to people across the room and then we gave feedback to the persons chromebook we had. I had Fau's chromebook, I gave her recount a R4 and close to R5. I rated myself a R4, and I got a R4 and a little bit of R5 which was good for me and I was happy about my score.

Boxing | Kiwi Sport

Today LS1 group A went to the hall to take part of the second session for boxing. Our coach was Pax. Pax reminded us about the three commandments.

They were: Respect, discipline, and safety which is the most important. Respect means being thoughtful and kind to our teammates, coach and our teacher. Discipline means showing up on every lesson if you're not sick and giving your 100%. Safety means practising under the guidance of a coach or caregiver. We then put on our liners, boxing gloves and then we got into a circle to remind us about the Jab and Cross.

We had to check if we were touching anybody so we could spread out. We then had to practise the Jab and Cross in a circle. We did it a few times and then learnt how to walk while in the rock position.

To walk forward you have to put your left foot forward then your right foot forward. It is reverse for walking backwards. For example: You get into your rock position, then you stretch your right foot at the back even further back and then you take your left foot back into the rock position. We then learnt the hook and upper cut.

In order to do the hook we had to start in our rock position, we then had to twist sideways, after that we had to punch in a hook motion but sideways. We practised a bit. I got the hang of it and was ok at the hook. We then learnt the uppercut. We had to start in our rock position then go down, and then throw the punch up. We practised a few times. I wasn't good at the uppercut because I don't know the movements very well. We then wrapped the session up.

It was a very fun day. I enjoyed learning new stuff and I hope I will be good at it one day.
