Cybersmart | Keywords

LI: To use keywords for better searching.

We were adding to our cybersmart lesson for last week. We had to find the keywords from the question about the topic which was netball, search the keywords and then find the answer to the question then link the website to the 'Answer' box. The questions were: 'How many positions are there in netball?', 'Which netball team has the highest win percentage?' & 'What do the netball positions do?'.

Kiwi Can

LI: To learn how to understand emotions.

LS1 group A went to kiwican. When we got there we talked about our theme and topic. Our theme is 'Resilience' and our topic is 'Understanding Emotions'. We got into our energizer which was 'How do you feel?'. Ms. Mack asked us to highfive ten people and then tell her how we felt during it. After highfiving people we had to hold our breath from a short time to a long time and then tell us how we feel. After that we did starjumps then planks. Next we did our catchphrase which is: Kiwi Can says, If you feel it, let it out, don't doubt, just let it all out. After our energizer we did our activity which was: Emotional Charades. We got a card which said what we had to act out and people had to guess what we feel and what our card was about. After that we did GKQ.

MOTAT | School Trip

LI: To learn about technology and transportation.

MOTAT stands for museum of transport and technology. We went on a school trip at motat to learn about STEAM (Science, Technology, Engeneering, Arts & Mathematics). We explored motat in groups first. We saw lots of old things like trams, stocks, telecommunications, printshops, an old village, computers, cars, fire station, trampoline, classroom, church & a prison.

After exploring we did an activity on how to make flashlights with two other people. We had an LED light, connecting blocks, motors, cogs, axles, stoppers & a base to make the flashlight. Our first task was to make the LED light to work. After we've done that we had to make a flashlight.

The next activity after making the flashlights were to make an electic car. We used: cardboard, scissors, tape, wheels, axels, and a motor. We had to get the positve wire and connect it to the opposite direction and then get the negative wire and connect it to the other direction. I enjoyed making a flashlight and an electric car.

Commenting

LI: To give feedback to someone.

I decided to comment on Shinaye's blogpost on writing. I asked if she enjoyed doing the work. She did add the meaning of persuasive, but she did not have most of the information needed in the blurb. Besides that her blogpost was good. I enjoyed giving feed back to Shinaye.

Basic Facts Boxes

LI: To remember basic maths facts.

I finished the basic facts for multiplication. My time was 4 minutes 57 seconds. I think I could do better next time. My strategy for the multiplication problems was to memorise my times tables every night.

I read a book called Wonder. It was a really inspiring and interesting book. The main characters were: Olivia, August, Olivia's mom and dad. The book was about many different topics and I enjoyed reading the book.

Possums | Reading

LI: To seperate a fact from an opinion.

We had to make a poster about whether we want to keep the possums in New Zealand or if we want possums gone. First we had to read a text about the possum problem in NZ. After that we had to make a small summary on what the text says and then do a fact or opinion poster. After that we did the same thing but based it of two Australian articles and made two small summaries for each article. In my possum argument I used facts, opinions and reasons as to why they shouldn't be protected.

How to be Persuasive

LI: To learn what persuation is.

Mr. Ogilvie set out an activity were two groups of two people had to persuade each other to think that there point of veiw is correct. The example was nine and eighteen. They used facts to persuade the other person. After that we had to partner up with someone and pick a catagory on what we want to argue about. My partner and I picked which New Zealand sport team is better. I was with Alayah. Alayah chose the All Blacks and I chose the Silver Ferns. After that we had to create a poster on how to be persuasive and had to include the things we learn in the process of the activities.

LS1 went to the hall to watch a duffy act. The characters were the Dismantler, the Puzzler, Duffy, Samantha, Samantha's mum, and their aunt. The act was about a kid named Duffy and his cousin Samantha who get sucked into a game. It happened because Duffy put on his aunties glasses and did her dance that she used to do all the time. They found out that their auntie was a computer science person and creating the game that Sam was addicted to which was Magic Bricks. They found out the secret algorithm to getting out of the game. They had a limited amount of time and got clues with the magic bricks because they had letters on the side spelling out words. The game was based on Minecraft and Jumanji. I enjoyed the act and my favourite characters were the Dismantler and Samantha.

Kiwi Can | Resilience | Emotions

LI: To learn about emotions.

LS1 group A went to kiwi can for our first session for the term. We had a new theme which was resilience and a new topic which was emotions. We talked about what emotions are. Emotions are when a person has a feeling. Then we continued with the types of emotions.

After that we did our energizer which was Silent Disco. We had to talk to each other about what emotion we were going to show without talking. We got into groups of three and my group did the sad emotion. After that we did our activity which we guessed emotions.

For this Ms. Mack chose someone to put on headphones and listen to music and then Ms. Mack would tell us to act a type of emotion and the person with headphones on had to try and guess what emotion we were acting. After our activity we did GKQ (General, Knowledge, Questions).

Our catchphrase was - Kiwi Can says, If you feel it, let it out, don't doubt, just get it all out. I enjoyed going to kiwi can. My favourite part was when we did GKQ.

Commenting

LI: To give someone feedback.

I decided to comment on Elaario's blogpost about what a fraction is. It was a cool DLO but his blurb didn't provide enough information about what he did, how he did it and what he used. I asked if he enjoyed making the DLO.

H.I.I.T | Workout

LI: To get fit, workout and stay healthy.

H.I.I.T stands for: High, Intesity, Interval, Training. LS1 was doing H.I.I.T to stay healthy and be fit. We did three rotations with our partners. My partner was Alayah.

Our first rotation was:

1.  Mountain climbers -  We had a choice to do it on the floor or on the edge of the stage. We had to put our hands on the floor and then kick your legs towards your chest

2. Push ups - We had to put our hands on a mat and we could chose the knee push ups, the proper push ups and the proper push ups but when you come back down you can let your hands go.

3. Pull ups - We had to position our hands on the stick while lying down then bend your legs towards your backside. After doing that we had to push with our chest and go as close as possible to the stick and come back down then repeat it until its the other partners turn.

The first group went to the hall to do the easy workout and the second group was doing the hard workout. I enjoyed the H.I.I.T session.

We needed to make a google doc and make the speeches. We needed to group up with someone in our writing groups. We had to name our story we called it: St. Patrick's day steal.

We had to find out if other planets can support human life with a little bit of help with technology. Such as: Oxygen tanks and ect. We presented in front of Mr. Wongs inquiry group.
