Thinking Grid | Water Safety

LI: to learn how and why we need to stay safe in and around water.

This activity was based around our prior knowledge while around or in the water. There were six questions we were required to answer. One of the questions were: "Why is it important to be safe in the water?" I think that it is really important to be safe in the water because it can keep you and possibly others safe. While in crutial situations, you can stay calm and not panick. A piece of advice I would give to a child under 6 years old in order to keep them safe is, to always have an adult with you no matter what. In New Zealand, we are surrounded by water and there are many bodies of water, which makes it even more important to be educated around water.

River Safety Brochure

LI: to learn how and why we need to stay safe in and around water.

This activity was based around how we could stay safe in and around rivers. We created a brochure promoting safety around rivers. The information would be researched or found at the River Safety site. It is important to always have safety equipment when in rivers. We also need to make sure to check how shallow or how deep the river is before we go in. While checking the depth of the river, look out for rocks or bumpy parts of it. It is recommended to wear covered shoes in rivers. If the water is not deep make sure to never dive into it. Some activities to do in a river is: kayaking, fishing, and paddle boarding.

Soccer Interschool

On Wednesday, some students from Panmure Bridge School, went to Madills Farm to play soccer against other schools. There were 7 groups from Panmure Bridge School that participated in this event.

The year 7&8 girls from LS2, had their first game against Stonefields 1. We tried our best and got tired very fast, we ended up winning 1-0. After this game, we had an interval and then played against Ruapotaka school. We ended up with points of 0-0 making it a tie. The third team we played against was Glen Brae. We won this match 2-0. After our third game and our break, we played against Stonefields 2. This was a hard game but we ended up winning 3-0. Our last opponent was Sylvia Park but they did not show up, so we played another school. This game was a tie 0-0. In the end, we ended up winning three out of five games and drew the other two games.

I enjoyed playing soccer on that day and I improved my skills in soccer by a lot. I hope that these skills I have gained will come in handy for the future.

AFL

LI: to improve your skills when playing AFL.

Today LS2 went to the field to play AFL (Austrailian Football League). The year seven's and eight's seperated and started learning some skills.

The first skill we were taught was how to catch a ball to get points. The first way to catch a ball is to use the camera technique. We need to make a 'W' shape with both hands and the ball should land in between your hands (the camera). The second way to catch a ball is to scoop the ball like people do in rugby.

After learning the skills, we played against the year eight's. The year seven's ended up winning the match.

I enjoyed this week's session and got to learn how to play AFL properly.

Athletics Day

I took part in Athletics Day. Athletics day is a day were we apply our skills of running, jumping and throwing to have fun. We have different activities based on our year group. The rotations last 8 minutes.

Our first two activities were: Rob the Nest & Long Jump. In Rob the Next, we needed to get as much tennis balls as we could, in our hoop. The person with the bib was the defender and had to tag people. The people that got tagged were stuck and they couldn't move unless their teammate tagged them. In Long Jump, we needed to get a cone and jump on the grass. If we beat someone else's score, we mark how long we jump.

The next two activities were: Sponge Relay and Shotput. For the Sponge Relay, we needed to get into the bags, jump to the sponges, get a sponge, go underneath the tarpaulin and jump over the stick to get to the water bucket. After reaching the water bucket, we dipped the sponge into the water bucket then did the relay again. In the shotput activity, we needed to try and push the shotput as far as we could.

After that, we had Discus/Hula Hoops and Lifesaver. The objective of the Discus/Hula Hoop activity was to get as many points by throwing the hula hoop in the one point cone, five point cricket wicket or the ten point pole. The objective of the Lifesaver activity was to get the bean bag faster than the other people.

Next, we had Rest/Dance and Egg & Spoon. In Rest/Dance we could rest or dance to the music. The purpose of the Egg & Spoon challenge was to do a parkour while balancing an egg on a spoon.

The last two activities were: Frisbee & Lilly Pad Gladiator. In the Frisbee activity, we needed to throw the frisbees into the net to get one point. The Lilly Pad Gladiator is an activity that had an objective to hop on the lilly pads and play rock paper scissors to get to the last lilly pad.

I enjoyed the day, but felt really tired at the end of it. My favourite activity was the Sponge Relay because I got wet and it made me cool down. My least favourite activity was the discus one because I don't enjoy discus and I am bad at it.

Touch Rugby | Interschool Tournament

On Wednesday some students from LS1 and LS2 went to Dunkirk Reserve to participate in a touch interschool tournament. The students were split into year 5's, year 6's, year 7's and year 8's.

The year 6's has 7 games, but the year 5's had 4 games. The first game was against Pt. England team one. We played our hardest and used all of the skills we were taught, but unfortunately lost the game 3-0.

The next game was against St Patricks. We tried very hard and fortunately we won 3-0. After that, we went against Stonefields team one and lost 4-5. Our next game was against Stonefields team two, we luckily won 4-2. The fifth game was against Sylvia Park and they had good players. We lost 3-0. Bailey Road was our next opponent, they had good skills and technique but we stepped up and won 5-1. The last game was against Pt England team two. We thankfully won 3-2.

In the end of the day, we won four games but lost three. I enjoyed the day and had a lot of fun. The most fun game was against Bailey Road. Something we need to work on is communicating more. The hardest game was against Sylvia Park, because they had really good players.

Volleyball | Interschool

On Wednesday, some students from our school went to the Barfoot & Thompson stadium to participate in the volleyball interschool with Mr Ogilvie (who organised the trip).

The year 5/6's first game was against St Pius. We tried our best but unfortunetely lost by 3-2. The year 5/6's second game was against Ruapotaka. We lost by 14-8. Our third game was against Point England. It was a very close match and we lost by 8-6. Our fourth game was against Stonefields. We lost by 15-3. Our last game was against Tamaki Primary. We fortunately won 10-8.

The year 7/8 group one's first game was against Tamaki Primary and they fortunately won 17-12. Their second game was against Panmure District. They tried their best and they won by 30-16. Overall, they won three games and lost three games.

The year 7/8 group two's first game was against Tamaki Primary. They also tried their best but lost by 29-16. They ended up losing all of their games but still enjoyed the day.

Thank you to Mr Ogilvie for oganising the trip. I had a lot of fun. Some things I could improve on is: to get good at setting the ball, passing the ball to my team and hitting the ball over the net.
