Day 1 | Activity 1: Setting Sail (Four Points) | Summer Learning Journey

LI: To list 10 foods you would take to the sea for three weeks and explain why.

Today was the first day of the real Summer Learning Journey. For this activity we had to list ten foods that we would take to the sea. These foods have to be non perishable which means they wont go bad or decay quickly. We also had to explain why we would take these foods to the sea. I chose: Rice cakes, Fruit cups, Granola bars, Tea bags, Nuts & Dried fruits, Canned baked beans, Canned spaghetti, Dried Wakame seaweed, Canned tuna & water. I enjoyed this activity.

  1. Salam Farzana,
I really enjoyed reading your blog post and observing your work that you have completed. I would take these things to. I like how you listed your foods and wrote down the health benefits of them. Was there anything about this activity you found hard? I also liked how you added the proportions of the food you were taking.

Great blogging and Keep it up!

  2. Salam alaikum Farzana,

My name is Mani and I am going to be joining you on the Summer Learning Journey as a blog commenter. I am so excited that you are joining us for the Summer Learning Journey 2019-2020. Have you done this programme before?

This year I am so excited that I get to read over the Manaiakalani blogs, especially because I have been to your school and met some of your fellow students! I am really looking forward to summer, aren't you? In my spare time I like spending time with my family and hanging out with my friends. I also love to exercise and write songs in my spare time. What are you looking forward to doing this summer?

Firstly I think it is amazing that you have posted! I really enjoyed reading through the list of items that you would take but I am super impressed with your reasons why because I know you put a lot of effort into the mathematics that is involved. 42 litres is a lot of water, I hope you don’t run out!! By adding some bright colours or a few pictures of the food items to your blog post I think it would really catch people’s attention.

I look forward to reading more of your blog posts Farzana , Happy posting! :)

    Thank you,
    Mani

  4. Hi Farzana,
I liked how you said that you'd bring lots of nutritious and packaged food because sealed food lasts longer. It seems like you and Fau did the same DLO. If you could bring more items, what else would you bring?

  5. Hello Farzana! It's a real journey going looking at all your activities from beginning to end...but I also get the chance to realize and appreciate the continuous effort, and quality in you've put into your blog posts from day 1! This is a really good list, having food items that would actually be effective on a long voyage. The green tea bags sounded really smart to me - something I never thought of...This was a strong start, fantastic work!
