Optical Illusions | Summer Learning Journey | Day 3 Activity 3

This activity was based on creating an optical illusion and learning about what they are.

Optical illusions are made of geometric shapes. Optical illusions also make the image look like it is moving of is in 3D whereas in real life, they are still and only 2D.

I made the optical illusion shown below by drawing multiple small circles on different areas of the paper and then making them bigger. They eventually meet and create a cool look.

I enjoyed this activity because I really like art and drawing. I think that I could get better in art. Something that I could change about this illusion is the size of the circles.

  1. Hello Farzana.

My name is Elle and I’m from the Summer Learning Journey team.

Thank you for sharing your optical illusion! I like that you talked about what optical illusions are so that other people can learn about it too!

It’s so cool to hear that you enjoyed this activity and that you like art and drawing - it definitely shows in your artwork here! I like that you included some reflection for next time - you’re right, it would be fun to change up the size of the circles!

I really like how much detail you’ve put into your illusion and that you chose to do it on paper instead of digitally. You did an awesome job! Do you think this gave you more of a challenge, or do you find it easier to create art by hand?

Have a great day and I’m looking forward to seeing more of your blog posts!

    1. Kia Ora Elle!

Thank you for taking the time to comment on my blogpost! That was a great question! Creating art is harder to do by hand in my perspective. This is because you need to think about how to make the art do the measurements yourself whereas creating art digitally the angles are already there and you just need to move it. That was a great question! Do you like art? Why or why not?

      Thank you!

    2. Kia ora Farzana, you are most welcome and it is wonderful to hear back from you.

I definitely agree, I find that making art by hand is more difficult and those are some great points - especially regarding the measurements and angles, because that is what I usually find the most challenging!

I love art! Art can come in so many shapes and forms and is a fascinating way to express yourself because it is so personal. I find that visual art, like painting and drawing, is fun because you get better the more you practice, and you get to watch your progress as your skills develop! My favourite form of art is music, because I like playing the guitar or piano and writing lyrics to go with it! What is your favourite type of art to do?

Thank you for your reply and your awesome questions. I hope you have a great day!

      Ngā mihi,
      Elle (SLJ)
