Holiday Visit | One Tree Hill

Today my family decided to go to One Tree Hill. We Took a long drive their and saw the tower.

Unfortunately we werent able to see the tower, but we went to the waterfall and played for a bit. We ate chips and some juice. It was fun and we were playing with my handball. We went near the blossom trees. It was really packed with a lot of people but it didn't mind us. The next thing we saw was a dog war!

Their were three small and fluffy white dogs, one was not on a leash but the other two were. The other dog was a big, fluffy light brown dog on a leash. The dogs saw the brown dog and started to bark at it. When the brown dog heard it the dog barked back. The white dog without a leash ran to it and then the brown dog tried running to it. The white dog then got scared and ran back. It was very hilarious! We then took some pictures.

The kind of pictured we took was me eating my little sister (definitely not literally). We spent a lot of time trying to get it perfect, we didn't get a perfect photo but it was a bit decent. We then took a few sister goal photos. My youngest sister was at the front and made a heart with her hands. My second youngest sister was behind my youngest sister. Then I was third positioned behind my second youngest sister. Behind me was my oldest sister. We all made a heart and the photo turned out good.

We then went home and rested. It was a very fun time and enjoyable. I hope we can go their again, but go to the tower.

Wall Construction

LI. To create a defensive wall. This week for inquiry we had to create a defensive wall to test if our wall is a good source of defence. We tested the palisade wall first and then went on to the castle wall. Our palisade took 5 shots and was still standing. Our castle wall took 2 shots because the ball didn't hit the wall. We had to make a plan and then make the wall after. For the palisade we used: toothpicks, and for the castle wall we used: stone and sand. The other 5 groups made walls too.

Writing | Persuasive Exposision

LI. To write a persuasive speech. This week for writing we had to write an exposision and a speech of who would win between a Manticore & an Asian dragon. My exposision is about how and why a Manticore would win. Manticore vs Asian dragon. We had to use a planner and research over the weekends so we could be ready to write the information. We then did a challenge. The Manticore group went to the right side of the room and the Asian dragon group went to the left side of the room. We had to vs eachother and Mr. Wong judged which group did better. Everytime he said the Asian dragon or the Manticore group won he added a point to the chart. At the end we won by using teamwork!

Erik the viking raider | Video

LI. To identify the purposes of narratives. This week & last week we had to create a DLO about the short novel we read. I chose 'Erik the viking raider'. Our video we made had to include:
1. Animation/Images
2. Voiceover
3. Talking head
4. Movie clip
I made the video with: Wevideo.com. I first started of with the aimation and recorded it, so I could add it to my video. I then went on with my voiceover and put some images in and talked over it. After that I did the talking head. Lastly I put the clip onto the video. It took us two weeks to do this because making a video takes time. We have to plan it, then get all the materials and make it. I think my video is good for my first video I made.

YMCA Lagoon

Today the year fours went to the YMCA Lagoon with room 5 to take part in the last swimming session.

We first learnt how to do the streamline. The streamline is when you rotate around so you can stay on your back for a little while and then you can swim on your front for a little while. We practised twice. I think I was a bit good but with some mistakes. We then did the dolphin dive.

The dolphin dive is when you put your legs up on an angle and then try to reach the floor. I tried to do the dolphin dive, but I accidentally rotated and got water up my nose. I tried again and failed. I will try to do this and get it right.

We then had to go back to PBS. It was our last swimming session at the YMCA Lagoon. I really enjoyed the session because I learnt a lot about water safety. I hope I can go again at the YMCA Lagoon.

Cybersmart | Smart commenting

LI. To practise writing a quality comment. This week for cybersmart we had to practise writing quality comment for the film festival. We had to chose someone who we don't usually comment on. We had to follow these steps:
1. Greeting & complement
2. Connection with the author's work
3. Helpful comment
4. Encouragment
We had to check our comment with Mr. Wong then publish it.

Kiwi Can | Fun week

Today LS1 group a went to kiwi can to have a fun day. We had a session of games becuase it was the last week of the term. We played 'invisible rugby'.

There was fourteen people in group a so Mr. Matt divided us into two groups of seven. Mr. Matt called out a number and we had to run around the hoops. Miss. Lily told us who had the invisible ball and they ran to tag the person in the group so they could get a score. At the end the other team won the game.  We went inside and then                       played 'hand soccer'.

For the game we had to get into two groups and line up. Mr. Matt                   labeled us as numbers. I was three. Ms. Lily called out three, I ran                   and scored a goal. I was impressed with myself because I scored                     twice and I am not that great at hand soccer. At the end it was a                       draw.

Defensive Structures | NZ Defensive force

Yesterday we had a special visitor from the NZ Defence Force. His name is Mr. Chang but asked us to call him by his first name Isaac. He came to talk to us about defensive structures or layers to defend something. He also talked about explosives.

The layers that Isaac shared to us. The first layer is: camouflage. You have to be able to make your structure or person hidden and blended in with the environment so the enemies don't see that person or structure. The second layer is: Shape and materials. The shape of a defensive structure is important because if your structure was straight like a wall, the structure will collapse. However, if you had a angle or a curve to your structure the thing aiming to your structure it might bounce of it, you also might want to make an angle or curve all over your structure. The third layer is: Active defence.

The next thing Isaac talked to us about was explosives like: Land mines, dynamite (TNT), dumb bombs, smart bombs, and ect. We learnt lots about explosives and how far a bomb can go. The differences between dumb bombs and smart bombs are: that dumb bombs are smaller, smart bombs include more technology inside it, smart bombs are launches, and dumb bombs are dropped.

We then had a challenge between five other groups of five. We had to build a protocted base and put a helicopter inside to test if it will be protocted enough. We only could use tape, paper, and straws. We listened carefully to the layers. One of then were 'shape'. So we made a cylinder and connected two straws together and taped it inside the cylinder. The goal was to keep it still and to not fall. Our structure happend to stay to its place.

Kiwi Can

Today LS1 group A went to room seven to take part in the Kiwi Can session for this week. Our topic for this week is 'Perserverance'. It means to keep going, never give up, and also to be patient about something. We had a talk if we get fustrated and get angry about something.

We then went on to our energizer which was called 'Tangled up'. We went outside to do this. We had to try not to get tagged by the tagger. If you did get tagged you had to make a link with the main tagger. The only people who could tag were the outside people. Ms. Lily asked Liletina to start. Liletina went to tag people. I ran everytime Liletina came near me. Unfortunately I got tagged almost half way through out the game. I then tagged maybe 1-2 people. The reason why we played the game was so we didn't get fustraited and to use perseverance. The game was very tiring. We then talked about who got fustrated and why. After that we got into our activity.

Our activity was called 'Invisible tag'. Mr. Matt divided us into two groups. The main goal of this activity was to not get angry or fustrated if the other team wins. I personally got very fustrated. For the last round everyone went and my group won the round. I learnt to never give up if you fustrate a lot.

Duffy Visitor | Duffy assembly

Yesterday we had a duffy assembly and a duffy visitor. The visitor's name is 'Michel Mulipola' who is a famous comic book illustrator, professional wrestler, and a semi-pro gamer who took part in the Tekken competition. He inspires me to do want to do in life and when I am an adult or kid. I think he is a great duffy role model. I hope I could be an inspiration to kids when I am older.

He talked about how he got to where he his today. I didn't know that he took part in the Tekken challenge and came in the 12 best players. I also didn't know that he was a professional wrestler. He got to meet famous people and got to have a chance to illustrate commic books for WWE.

He said that you have to take every opportunity to do something. I am going to try that when I grow older. He was a great inspiration to me and I hope I take his words to when I am older. I learnt that you can be or do anything if you try hard.

General Knowledge

LI. To learn about the world around us. Today I decided to post my finished general knowledge. The country I chose was Afghanistan because I naturally come from Afghanistan. We had to do activities to finish this slide presentation. We had to find out interesting facts about the country we were doing. I really liked this because it was fun and enjoyable.

Commenting

LI. To comment on people's blogpost. Today I commented on Florence's reading blogpost. I liked her blogpost because she put the lesson from the story in good information. I did the story too. I think she put good effort in the DLO.
Here is the link to my comment- A piece of Paradise

Multiplication & Division

LI. To practise reciting all your times table. Today for the daily six I decided to do multiplication and division. I did all the seven times table, and the division. I am pretty confident that I can recite all the seven times table untill the 5th one but I still need practise to recite all of them. Learning the times table is important for most people because it can make more impact in your life when you get a job.

Keyboarding

LI. To practise typing. Today I decided to get good at my typing so I went on a testing website to test myself. I have a accuracy of 15%. My errors were 11 and my W.P.M was 13. I think I could have done better than this week but I can try better next week.

Snag Golf

This week for Snag golf we got to use a putter. The putter was made for the ball to go flying in the air and landing on or in something. We had to get into a group of 3, in my group was Charlize and Juel. On the first activity we had to hit the ball so that the ball went into the hoop. Once we did that the second activity was to hit the ball so that the ball bounced in the hoop and land on the target. We all had a go but no one got it on the target, Again we all tried our best but didn't score the goal. Then we had a third activity, it was to move the target closer and move the hoop further down. But we had to try and make the ball go over the target and land in the hoop. . The last activity was to just make the target fall over and then make the ball bounce in the hoop and hit the flag. We all tried and only me and Juel got a SNAG.

Firearms | Rifles

LI. To adapt existing technology. This week for inquiry we had to make a DLO explaining the purposes of offensive technology that we chose in 18/19 centuries. The technology we chose was rifles. We had one slide each and had to find true information based on our technology. Our technology had to be explosives where you could make more sophisticated weapons with metal. I did the fifth slide where I put information about the types of rifle actions which are the bolt-action, the lever-action, pump-action, semi-automatic action, and the break-action.

Emotive Language

LI. To write informative but emotive paragraphs. This week for writing we had to create a poster about emotive language. We had to give the definition, examples and techniques. I thought of simple sentences then wrote them down, after that I added more interesting words with emotion for a good sentence. I did the definition of emotive with is making audience feel emotion through their body which also comes from the word itself. I put down why you feel more emotion and also the techniques you can use.

Kiwi Can

Today LS1 group A went to room seven to take part in the Kiwi Can session for this week. We had a new topic for this week and next week which is 'Perserverance'. It means to keep going, never give up, and also to be patient about something. We had a talk if we get fustrated and get angry about something.

We then went on to our energizer which was called 'Add master'. It is like the game Master but you have to use your hands. Mr. Matt picked someone to start first. Then Vayan started to go around the circle to challenge people. You can put up how much fingers you want to add up. After doing that you can try to add up the fingers faster than the other opponent. If you get the answer faster than your opponent you go to the next person. The goal for this energizer was to not get fustrated at the game. We then finished up the game and then went to our activity.

Our activity was called 'Card tower'. We got into groups of four and then had to make a tower. The main goal of this activity was to not get angry or fustrated if the tower falls down. In our group there was- Kaitlyn, Fau, Charlize, Lila, and Bella. We got fustrated but at the end we were able to get a tower. We compared our towers but two groups didn't manage to get a tower because there one fell. Our group was the winning group! We were all happy because we won even though we fustrated a lot. I learnt to never give up if you fustrate a lot.

Converting analogue to digital clock

LI. To convert between analogue and digital clocks. This week for maths we had to create a DLO and write our typical day. We had also had to write the time we do those things and the minutes it takes. If it is over an hour we keep it like that. For example- 90min and convert it to 1h and 30min. To work this out do this. You know that 60min is 1h. So if you have a total of 100min you get 60min from the 100min and you have 1h. You should know that you should have 40 left. So then you have your total which is- 1h 40min.

In the beginning

LI. To identify the purpose of narratives. This week for reading we had to create a DLO about a story we chose. The story I chose was ' In the beginning '. In the DLO we had to have a lesson and messages in the story. I think the lesson from the story was that there is a beginning to everything. Our DLO had to include audio, movement, or video.

Commenting

LI. To comment on people's blog. Today I decided to comment on Chris's blogpost about the ' Sons of Ma'afu '. He had a very detailed blurb and summary, that is why I like it. His audio was a great example.
Here is the link to his blogpost- Sons of Ma'afu

Multiplication & Division

Keyboarding

Today I went on a website called ' A typing test ' to practise the home row keys and to get good at it. The time I had was one minute, my typing speed was 12 words per minute, my errors was 9, and lastly my accuracy was 25% giving me one star. I think I need to practise at typing super fast. I also think I could've done better, but until next time I will see the results.

Bow & Arrow | History

LI. To learn about defensive technology. This week for inquiry we had to create a slide presentation about technology that we chose. The technology we chose was the bows and arrows becuase we think it is a good source of defence and becuase it can shoot a far distance. We have present our technology that we chose to all of Mr. Wongs inquiry groups.

No personal devices in school

LI. To write a persuasive argument. This week for writing we had to make a screencastify to record our opinion about banned devices in school. I think schools should ban devices so that kids can lose interest apon social media. Devices have a light behind the screen preventing the person in front of the screen to sleep. We had to state our opinion at the first paragraph, then give our three reasons in one paragraph each. We then had to make a slide presentation with pictures matching the topic of the paragraph. After all this we had to make a screencastify about the topic.

A piece of Paradise

LI. To identify the purpose of narratives. This week for reading we had to make a slide presentation about the lessons or messages. We had to chose stories and base your learning on the story. The story I chose was ' A piece of Paradise '. The reason I chose this story was because it looked fairly interesting and it is interesting. The lesson this story is trying to teach is that you shouldn't fight over who is the best, who made the best thing and ect.

Stations | Activities

LI. To investigate the relationship between the perimeter and area of rectangles. This week for maths we had to create a slide presentation of the stations that had activities at them. We had to get into groups of four. In my group there was: Victoria, Alice, and Florence. Mr. Ogilvie had set up five stations each and we all did one exept for Victoria who did two because we were groups of four. At the first station we had to investigate the relationship between the area and perimeter. At station two we had to measure centimeters and then cut the centimeters we marked to make a house. At the third station we had to answer square root equations on a task sheet. At the fourth station we needed to cut a square out of Squared paper and try to see what the area and Perimeter of the Square is in Centimeters. Then you had to cut the square once to make a rectangle with the perimeter of 20 centimeters. And finally at the last station we looked at 2 x 2 and 3 x 3 squares and their differences. Then we were to compare the perimeters of a 3 x 3 to a 4 x 4 square and then compare the different squares with the area of the next biggest square. We looked at differences squares and then looked at their differences from the next biggest squares.

Inerschools rugby

Today we went to the Auckland university to have interschools with other schools in the tamaki cluster. Our first game was against Bailey Road school. We tried our best to win our first round but we drawed against them. We still did really good. At the end of the rounds we came first place.

Our last round we versed Sylvia Park School. We really tried with all our effort and fortunately won against them. We were happy and gave the Sylvia Park School hurrays and congratulated them.

We then went to watch the boys barbarians team. They tried very greatly and unfortunately lost all there games. We were still happy because they tried with all there effort too.

The year 7&8 boys worked really hard and only lost one game and the other two they won managing them to come 2nd place.

At the end of the day we all tried and had our best game for 2018. I think everyone who joined has participated greatly. I am greatly thankful to our rippa rugby team.
