Food Preservation | T-Chart

Food containers are used for storing food, but they have different requirements depending on the storage needed.

Plastic Container
Plastic containers are made with firm but bendy plastic, there are many different shapes and sizes. Some advantages for plastic containers are: they are stackable, they have lids, and the size is the person's choice. Some cons are: they are usually overpriced, the big containers are usually meant for big fridges, or freezers.

Mason Jars
Mason jars are glass containers. Some pros are: they are good for pantry storage, come in different sizes, it's easy to see the contents inside of the mason jars. Some cons are: they are made of glass (which is easy to break), the lids are metal (which can cause them to get rusty).

Gastronorm Pan Containers
Gastronorm pan containers are stainless steel containers. Some advantages are: they keep things warm, they are suitable for oven cooking, they are suitable for buffets. Some cons are: the edges are extended (which might make them difficult to place in places, they have no lid.

Conclusion
The three containers are best for three different situations. Food is often stored for the following situations: storing left overs in the fridge, storing preserved food like fruit or pickles at room tempature, and storing food that needs to be kept warm for buffets.

Plastic containers are best for storing food in a fridge, because they have lids making them stackable and the person buying them can chose the size of the containers.

Mason jars are best for storing fruit or pickles, because they are airtight and they are the only type of containers suitable for things like that.

Gastronorm pans are best for storing food for buffets, because they keep the food warm and they can fit a lot of food in it.
