Originally, there were no people in New Zealand. The first people who settled in New Zealand arrived in a series of waka.
The ten names for the waka were: Kurahaupō, Tākitimu, Mataatua, Tainui, Te Arawa, Aotea, Tokomaru, Horouta, Uruao, Ārai-te-uru. These waka landed in different places in New Zealand, but the majority was in the north island.
All of these waka were strong in different areas. For example: Mataatua was identified as one of the greatest traditional boats that was used for migrating.

The objective of this activity was to build an understanding of where the first ten waka journeyed to.
LI: To build an understandig about the first ten waka.
