Reading | Mrs Twit

LI: To novel study.

This week for reading we were reading to our expectations. 'My expectation was up to the end of Mrs. Twit gets a stretching'. The book I chose was called 'The Twits'. The Twits is about two partners that are twits. Mr and Mrs Twit are horrible people. This week we started our novel activities. I chose 'Describe a Character', and my character that I chose was Mrs. Twit. I described her personality, appearance and explained a bit about her. I enjoyed writing about Mrs. Twit.

Kiwi Sport | Tennis

LI: To learn the basic grip on a tennis racket.

This week was our first session of kiwi sport. We are learning how to play tennis with Coach Peter. We started with a warm up.

In our pairs one person had to drop a tennis ball and the other person had to try and catch the ball. The person trying to catch the ball had to position the palm of their hands facing the ground and had to flip their hand to catch the ball. This warmed up our reactions. We then did the activity.

For the activity we were learning about the forehand and backhand technique. The forehand is when you place your dominant hand (the hand you write with) on the bottom of the tennis racket. The backhand is when you place your other hand above your dominant hand.

Cybersmart | Legal & Illegal Images

LI: To understand the legal use of images.

This week for cybersmart we were learning about legal and illegal use of images. We first had to define what legal and illegal mean. Legall means when you have the right to use something and illegal means when you don't have the right to use something. We had to find two illegal and legal websites of images. Two legal websites are: Pixabay & StockVault. Two illegal websites are: Flickr (some photos) & Shutterstock. For the legal box we had to add in one example of a legal to use image and for the illegal box we had to add two illegal to use images.

Maori

LI: To learn new Maori words.

This week for Maori we translated Maori words into English words. We had to translate a short scene to English because it was in Maori. We also translated questions and answering them.  We had to answer these following questions: Who is your friend?, Who are your friends?, Who is your grandmother? Who is your grandfather?, Who is your mother?, Who is your father?, Who is your brother?, Who is your sister? and Who is your older sibling? I enjoyed today's Maori session.

Kiwi Can

LI: To learn how to respect ourselves and others people.

This week for kiwi can we were learning about how to take the responsibility of a leader. For our energizer we played a game that had four challenges but we had done only two of the challenges.

There was one leader of a group and they went up to Ms. Mack to get the challenge. Our first challenge was a taking steps forward, taking steps backwards, hoping backwards and hoping forwards. We did manage to get the challenge at the end. For the next challenge we had to change leaders. Our challenge was to spell 'RESPECTFUL' with our group. I said "R-E", Jaylee said "S-P", John said "E-C", Joshua said "T-F" and Kruse said "U-L".

We then had a talk about strengths. We had to name the things we are good at or our strengths. I think that I am a little bit good at Netball.

After that we went on with our activity which was called 'Human Knot'. We had to get into two groups and make a circle. We had to hold hands with someone, but we couldn't hold hands with the people beside us. We then made a knot with our hands then had to try and untangle ourselves. My group didn't manage to untangle the knot but the other group did. I think one of the major things we needed to do more was communicate with eachother.

We still had some time left so we had played GKQ (General Knowledge Questions). We played master. Ayden started us off and Bella ended the game.

Catchphrase - "Kiwi Can says, Respect ourselves, Eat healthy, And rest well.

We got many businesses to catagorise and had to take a photo of each group. After that we catagorised it again but in two groups which were: Goods & Services. Goods is when you can leave with something in your hand physically. Service is when you give a business money or something and they pay you back by doing something for you. They don't give you something physicall though.

This week on Wednesday a group of lucky students had an opportunity to watch a live performance of an Orchestra. When we reached the place we were early so we waited. After a few minutes we finally got into the theatre and the show was about to start. There were many people playing different instruments. There were four aeriel dancers telling a story with just their actions and they didn't use words. It was an amazing performance and I enjoyed the show.

Kiwi Can

LI: To learn about respect.

This week for kiwi can we were learning about respect. We discussed what we did last week. Our energizer was "Versus". Mr. Sumanu and Ms. Matt said two different things in the same category and we had to chose what we like better then move to that side. We had to give a reason as to why we chose that one. We had to try and give better reasoning than the other group. We got tied twice. I enjoyed the kiwi can session because it was fun.

This week for Maori we had to complete the tasks from last week. We finished all of our tasks so we did an extra task which was Wiki Rua. We had to translate the English countries/cities into Maori. Maori

This week for our first session of Maori we did a rotation. We had to get into groups of six and they were the people that we were going to stay with for all of the Maori sessions.

My group started with Whaea Odie. We got asked questions like: Ko wai to koe? (Who is your friend?), Ko wai tou ingoa? (What is your name?), Ko wai au? (Who am I?) & Ko wai to matua? (Who are your parents or mama/papa?).

Our second rotation was Whakapakehatia. For Whakapakehatia we had to translate sentences that were in Maori into English. The first scene was about Sione getting invited to breakfast by his friends mum and dad and the second scene was about Haami's brother Nui meeting Sione.

Kiwi Can

This week for our first session of kiwi can for the term we were introduced to a new theme and teacher. Our teacher called Mr. Semanu. Our new theme was respect and our topic was respect for ouselves. We started of with a short recap of what our theme was last term. After that we moved on to our energizer.

For our energizer we played this listening game were Mr. Lati and Mr. Semanu said: 'Orange, Apple & Banana'. When they said 'Apple' we had jump forward, for 'Orange' we had to jump backwards and for 'Banana we had to do a 180° turn. After that we had a talk about how we respect ourselves then we got into our activity.

Our activity was called 'One truth and One lie'. We had two minutes to think of a lie and a truth that is hard to guess the truth. Some people went on the steps to present their truth and lie and the rest of us had to go on a side of the room and we got on point if we got it correct. I learnt that Mr. Ogilvie has played golf with Tiger Woods, Mr. Sumanu knows how to dance & Mr. Lati is 32 years old.

I enjoyed this weeks session of kiwi can and I learnt new things about Mr. Lati, Mr. Sumanu and Mr. Ogilvie.
