SSR Selfie

LI: To summarise and retell a text.

Today I read a book called 'Hamlet'. It was a very interesting Shakespeare story. It was about a prince named Hamlet, he was acting mad. I really like Shakespeare stories.

Maths | Area & Perimeter

LI: To measure length and calculate perimeter and area.

This week for maths we were learning how to calculate area and perimeter for our art wall. We chose a type of art that includes maths knowledge. I chose the geometric abstract art. We first had to measure the art walls to divide it in half for the other groups. Each one of us had to put up a piece of artwork. After measuring we were on to sketching our plan. We also had to find out the measurments of our sketch. I used the rectangle shape for my sketch.

Advertising | Food Gimmicks | Slogans

LI: To learn about persuasive tools in advertising.

This week for writing we were looking at advertising. We first did the slide of POV and other examples. We found many mascots but chose four mascots. We were working in groups of 3-4. In my group there was Fau, Charlize and Afatia. After that we went on to the slogans. We found many slogans of the categories. Next we chose some food gimmicks that people use to get more people buying their products. There were many gimmicks that we found. For the last activity we made our own slogans but it had to be about our school.

For cybersmart we had to make a DLO following the four areas of the print design rules which are: Colour, Layout, Text & Composition. We had to check our work of with Mr. Wong. The things we had to have in our DLO was the definition and more.

Archimedes Screw | Simple Machine

LI: To identify a simple machine.

A screw is a simple machine that transfers soft and liquid things from a low point to a high point. It is bent on an axle depending on the force. On Tuesday we were introduced to a new simple machine which was an archimedes screw. We did an experiment. Our experiment was that we had to make a screw out of a pipe and a stick. We managed to get some water out of the bucket by twirling the stick on an angle.

Kiwi Can | Challenges

LI: To deal with challenges.

The year 5's went to room seven to participate in our kiwi can session. We had a new topic which was 'Dealing with Challenges'. A challenge is a difficult task. We did an energizer were we had to listen to what Ms. Mack was saying and do the action. There were seven actions which were: 'Jump in, jump out, spin around, touch the ground, look up and look down'. It was difficult because Ms. Mack tricked us multiple of times. After the energizer we talked about challenges and what was challenging to us. Then we went to our activity were we got a puzzle and had to create an X shape or a + shape with shapes. We had to think outside the box. No one completed the puzzle but my group got close to making the X shape. Play the puzzle.

Pointless, Painful Physical Education | Synthesis

Flipgrid: https://flipgrid.com/81a84b1e

LI: To seperate a fact from an opinion.

For reading we had to read a new article and make a flipgrid on whether you agree or disagree with the article. Our article was called 'Pointless, Painful Physical Education'. We first filled in our prior knowledge then we had to read the article. After we read the article we had to categorise the QAR questions into one of the 'Right there, think & search, author & me and on my own' boxes. Next we had to answer the questions that we categorised. Then we filled in the last two ovals. Lastly we filmed our flipgrid.
