Kiwi Sport: Softball

I learned how to bat the softball hard and the techniques to hold a softball bat properly.
Our coach’s name is Alison. She taught us how to bat properly. For the first thing we
played Scatterball. I was in the fielding team first. Kaitlyn hit the ball really hard and far.
The rules for this week was different because if you get the ball to the two cones you
have to sit out because Alison wants everyone in the team to put the ball on to the cones.
I learned by using the techniques that Alison and all the other coaches have taught us for the past few weeks. I like softball because you get to go outside and play a sport and I like sports. I think I am getting really good at hitting the ball. For the second activity we played four corners. The rules were that you had to be at a corner for every round. For the first round we had to walk normally. For the second round we had to walk backwards and for the last round we had to pick an animal and be that animal until we get onto a corner.

Commenting

Today I commented on Oscar's blog. I liked how he inserted the images and how he layouted the DLO properly. I wanted to know if he had fun doing the activities and I also wanted to know if he enjoyed kiwi can. Here is the link- Oscar's blog

Kiwi Can

LI. To learn how to conflict resolutions. Today at kiwi can our new topic for the week is ‘conflict resolutions’ and our theme is ‘positive relationships’. We had to learn what conflict resolutions mean and what to do when someone is angry and emotional. Here is what you should do.. First you should let them calm down, then you should tell an adult if they don’t calm down, after that you should make them feel happy about themselves.

Cybersmart: Cleaning drive

LI. To learn how to clean your drive. This week for cybersmart we had to clean our drive', so we know where our DLO's and our things. My drive was already clean because I know that it will be complicated to find my things in my drive. In my drive my folders are, writing, reading, maths, inquiry, screencastify, media, LS1 2018 photos, kiwi sport, kiwi can, home learning, badges, and art. The most important folders are, the reading folder, the writing folder, the inquiry folder and, the maths folder.

Self-monirtoring Bones of Amelia Earhart found

LI. To find out the words that we don't understand and use the fix-up strategies to understand the word. Thins week for reading we had to self-monitor but with an article. For this activity we worked in pairs, Fau was partners with me. The article that we read was 'Bones of Amelia Earhart found'. We had to find words that we do not understand by knowing when we were stuck. I did not know what navigator, benadistine, sextant, circumnavigat, and pioneer was. Our fix-up strategies are, re-read, read ahead, find out what unknown words mean by using something, stop and think, create an image in your head, ask questions, make predictions, make connections, look at pictures illustrations charts and graphs and, ask for help. The strategy that worked for me mostly was find out what unknown word means. To me I think that it is easy to self-monitor by using the strategy that we came up with. I like self-monitoring because I get to fix up my mistakes and mistake is the key to learn new things everyday.
Here is the link to my document- Self-Monitoring

Duffy Assembly

Today we had duffy assembly. Our guests were Tayla Hodson Tomokino and, Matt Johnson and a woman from the mainfreight company. Tayla and Matt went up on the stage and talked about what they do. Tayla is an accountant, commentator, and interviewer, and Matt is currently a rugby player for the NZ team the Blues. Tayla was a national BMX champion, and Matt played for Melbourne Storms. Matt is currently training to be a P.E teacher, and Tayla wants to graduate in law and help sports people with contracts. Tayla and Matt got successful by reading books when they were my age. Reading books is not all about reading, it is about picking books about the things you have interest in like Tayla, she didn’t like reading because she didn’t pick the right books. She looked at a biography book because she was interested in biography books and from then and on she loved reading. Listening to Tayla and Matt was an inspirational to me because I never knew that reading could get us successful and achieve what our dreams are.

Kiwi Sport- Softball

Learning Intention: To learn how to bat while someone is pitching the ball to us.
Today at kiwi sport we learnt how to bat while Ash (our coach) was pitching the ball
to us. I think I did a great job at batting. It was kind of easy, but mostly hard.
I didn’t make a home run because I didn’t stay on the third base. Next week when we
play softball again I will stay on the bases when someone is close to the home base.

Commenting

LI. To comment on someones blog. Today I dicided to comment on Villiami's blogpost. His blogpost was kiwi sport. I think he did a great job. I really liked how he put everything that I need to understand his work on to the blogpost. I wanted to know if he enjoyed the process.
Here you can find Villiami's blogpost and my comment - Kiwi sport

Self-monitoring

LI. To learn how to self-monitor. This week for reading we had to understand what self-monitoring. First we had to read a text. The text for my group was called 'Flying Fungi'. Then we had to choose three words that we were stuck on. After that we had to think of the fix-up strategies and use it to comprehend the unknown word. The fix-up strategies are, re-read, activating prior knowledge, making connections, looking up unknown words on a dictionary or on google, read-ahead, and asking someone your arival. I mostly found the meaning of the unknown word on google.

Figurative Language | Pigeon Impossible

LI. To identify and use different forms of figurative language. This week for writing we watched a short film called pigeon impossible. When we finished watching pigeon impossible. First we had to make a copy of the slide that Mr. Wong made. After that we read the text, we had to highlight the things that have five figurative language types such as, personification, alliteration, idiom, simile, and metaphor. Personification means giving human or ablities to objects. Alliteration means starting words with the same sound or letter. Idiom means a non literal description. Simile means comparing something by using 'as' or 'like'. Metaphor means comparing something by using 'it is'.

Mottos

LI. To understand what a motto is. This week for inquiry we had to understand what a motto is and create a motto for our team. PBS's motto is 'Strive to Achieve'it means that we as a school can make great efforts, succeeded in things and we can try and also particapate. Our motto as ABAN is 'Think Unique' tt represents & means that everyone is unique in their own way. It also means that when people hear about our team we want them to think of us as unique and an inspiration, which is a result of creativity and effort.

Kiwi Can

Learning Intention: To learn how to be a role model. Today at Kiwi Can we learned how to be a role model. My role model that I look up to is my parents because they use their time to teach me, drive me to school so I can learn new things everyday and be successful, and work for me to keep my body healthy and good.

Keyboard shortcuts

LI. To learn and use core digital device skills. This week for cybersmart we learnt new keyboard shortcuts. Some of the shortcuts are, ctrl+t to open a new tab, ctrl+w to close a tab, ctrl+n to open a new window, ctrl+a to select all, ctrl+shift+t to restore tab, ctrl+c to copy something, ctrl+v to paste something, ctrl+d to automatically copy and paste something on a DLO. Most of them I already knew and some of them I learnt today.

Place Value

LI. To learn how to use the 'one for ten, ten for one' canon. This week for maths we learnt how to use the one to ten, ten to one canon to answer subtraction equations. I learnt how to answer subtraction equations by using the one for ten, ten for one strategy I also  learnt it by using the place value strategy. I learnt it because if there ever is a maths test while I'm in university to cover the whole year I'd be able to do it because I learnt it in school. If we are using the one for ten, ten for one canon the only answers are ten and one.

Commenting

LI. To comment on a persons blogpost. Today I decided to go on someones blogpost and comment on it. I choose Fau. I commented on her predicting document. She did a very good job at predicting. I wonder if Fau knows what Puha is, I also wonder if she enjoyed making predictions. I think making predictions are a boost to our prior knowledge. Making predictions is basically thinking in the future and thinking about whats happening next or thinking about the story without reading it by looking at the title, images, and the clues.

SSR Selfie

LI. To learn to write a small summary about a book that you have read. This week for daily six I wrote about Shoutykid: How Harry Riddles got nearly almost famous. The book was about how Shoutykid joined a band with Jess and this new kid named Kevin, he hopes that Kevin doesn't get expelled although he is annoying but he has a talent of playing the guitar. In the middle of the book he tells us how Harry Riddles almost got famous.

Team ABAN logo

LI. To create a logo for the minute to win it games. This week for inquiry we had to create a logo for our team because we are having a minute to win it contest based on the Winter Olympics. Mr. Ogilve and Mr. Wong has bought some meterials and things we need to make a game out of inside LS1. ABAN stands for the first letter of the countries that our team mates were born in. The people in my group are Sakina, Victoria, Jordan and Chris. The 'A' stands for America, the 'B' stands for Burma, the other 'A' stands for Afghanistan, and the last one 'N' stands for New Zealand, and the colors of the atom are our favourite colors, Chris likes red, Sakina and I like blue, Jordan likes green, and lastly Victoria likes yellow.

Art intensive week

Art intensive week

Last week in LS1 we had an art intensive week because we had to learn how to create a visual art piece of

ourselves, which is called a self portrait. To start with LS1 had to create a DLO explaining what pop art is
and who Andy Warhol is. We were good at making DLO’s because we were using our print design rules.

First we had to do a research of who Andy Warhol is and what pop art is. We had to work in groups of three,
in my group there was Sakina and Victoria. We could create the DLO on a google slide and google drawing.
We had to create a DLO to explain who Andy Warhol is, and what pop art is.

After learning about what pop art is and who Andy Warhol is Mr. Ogilvie printed a picture of us in black
and white, now we were on the real painting. We had to outline our image with a blue pen. Then we had
to show the image of the outlining to Mr. Wong or Mr. Ogilvie.

Soon we turned the image around and then used a special technique to shade the outline of my image.
We had to press the pencil hard but not to hard that the paper will tear because if we don’t it will not
transfer properly and we will have to start all over again, it is called no return.

Art intensive week was great because we got the chance to paint a self portrait. I think my self portrait
turned out really well, I was proud of myself I was also impressed I didn’t know that I could do well at
painting a self portrait of myself. When I finished my painting I felt like Andy Warhol.

LI. To learn how make a recount about art intensive week. This week for writing we had to write a recount
about art intensive week. We had to use TREE (Title Reveal Events & Ending), we had one minute to think,
three minutes to talk to our partner, and seven-ten minutes to write the reveal part. When we finished the
reveal section we had to come back to the mat and think for one minute, talk to our partner for three
minutes, and write for seven-ten minutes. We were finished at writing our event one, we had to go to event
two and then event three, finally we went on with the ending.

Kiwi Can

Kiwi Can

This week at Kiwi Can we were learning about leadership. We had to give examples of what never give up means. First we had to line up in to four groups then we got into our energizer. Our energizer was Rock, Paper, Scissors but if the person who you're partners with gets you, you have to go behind them like a train and keep cheering them on. The train gets longer and longer if you get the person that you are challenging. After that we were talking about how you can give something that you are not comefortable in a go and how you can never give up. When we were done talking about never giving up and giving it a go we went to playing Charades. I was in a group with Fau, Kaitlyn, Charlize, Liletina, and Aden. Fau went first at acting, she acted out a bear, then Kaitlyn went second Kaitlyn acted out a dinosoar. Charlize went third, she acted out a horse. I went fourth I acted like Harry Potter. Next we had time for a GKQ (General Knowledge Questions) the first line had to go, then the second line which was us, next came the third, then the last line. Then we did the points we had five points for each one of the rows. Some people didn't get to have a turn at Charades. We also had time to play more Charades so the people who did not get a turn had a turn. Finally we came back to LS1.

Different Subtraction Strategies

LI. To learn how to use different techniques to solve an equation. This week for maths we had to create a DLO showing the different strategies you learnt in the past to solve an equation. Personally I think that the number line and the place value strategy is best for my brain as I can solve an equation fast. I still think that the other ones are pretty simple but I can't solve it that fast.

Making Predictions

Making Predictions

One sentence I might see in the text is:
  • They are going to go to the farm.
Incorrect

Other predictions
Prediction
Correct / incorrect
I think the text is about, the girl, her sister, and their dad going to the farm to see some animals and they get lost on a creepy road.
Incorrect
I think the text is about the girl, the sister, and the dad going to pick up some puha from the farm and then a construction truck squishes the plant and they can not get the puha anymore.
Incorrect
I think the text is about, their family going to a farm and suddenly some cows go to the puha and eat all of the puha because they were hungry.
Incorrect
LI. To learn how to develop your prediction knowledge. This week for reading we had to learn how to make our predictions better by looking at the title of the book glancing at the pictures up by solving the hints. I think the story is about, a girl, her sister and their dad going to a farm because they need to get some puha for their breakfast but then a cow managed to stop them, the cow wanted to eat the puha for his breakfast so in a blink of an eye the cow ate the puha! I think that they were so sad, what do they eat for breakfast now?

Handwriting badge

LI. To develop neat handwriting. This week for daily six I decided to do handwriting. I did the letter 'K' we had to have neat handwriting. Mr. Wong said that I got a level 3 badge, so he sent me a handwriting badge. I did handwriting because I wanted to pactice neat handwriting I also did handwriting because if I went somewhere and I had to write down info of why I wanted to do something it would be easier for them to read and see what I wrote.

Self Portrait

LI. To use different techniques to create a visual art piece. This week for art we spent the entire week to create a visual art piece of ourselves. First Mr. Ogilvie printed a black and white image of us, we had to outline the image in blue pen. Then we had to shade the back of the image because if you don't it will be tough for you to trace it. Put the image that you have outlined on to a blank piece of paper and then put masking tape on it to keep it from moving and tearing.  Finally pastel the white bits look at the image you outlined to see where the white parts are.

Kiwi Sport

Kiwi Sport

Today we had softball our coach for today was Haileena. For the first activity we had base runs when Hailenna said "On your mark, Get set, GO" we ran as fast as we could I challengened Leletina. At the end of the race our team won. I was glad our team won. We learnt how to pitch the ball to our partners my partner was David. Hailenna told us technique wich was flicking our rists. I wasn't that good but I did manage to get it to David. We were done so she gave us a knew technique, we had to put our hands in a 'L' then lift our feets up like a 'K' and then pitch the ball to our partner. We had to remember first week technique witch was the butterfly hands. When we were done we went inside. I enjoyed softball because Hailenna was a nice coach and I learnt how to pitch.

Little boat recount commenting

LI. To find the mistakes of a recount.

This week for writing we had to go back to our little boat imaginative recount to comment on our writing work that we finished last week. I had to maake sure my writing features in my imaginative recount wich is....

  1. First person
  2. Past tence verb
  3. Time connectives
I learnt how to make a good recount by using all these things. I learnt it by making sure that my recount makes sence.

Activating Prior Knowledge

LI. To learn how to explain what activating prior knowledge means. This week for reading we had to create a DLO explaining what activating prior knowledge means. We had to find what prior knowledge means. Personally I think activating prior knowledge means knowledge that you comprehend about different topics, and also knowing a little bit about a topic you can learn more or new things.

Commenting

LI. To learn how to comment positive things on other peoples blog. Today I decided to comment on Sakina's blogpost on handwriting. I think that she is an excellent handwriter because she has neat handwriting. I hope she keeps up the great handwriting and work.

Andy Warhol / Pop art

LI. To learn about Andy Warhol and Pop art. This week for art we are doing a self portrait. We had to do a research of Andy Warhol and Pop art. We had to use our print design rules to make our DLO. I learnt how Andy Warhol was an artist, illistrator, and producer, he was a really nice person. I also learnt how he died, he died of irregular heartbeat. His paintings are still up in the Museum of Modern Art. We had to answer the 5 W's (Who, What, Where, When, Why) and the 1 H (How). We put a lot of effort into the Andy Warhol DLO.

Kiwi Can

This week at Kiwi Can we learnt about Leadership. First we got into our energizer, for our energizer we played Hammer. We had to get into partners then we had to put our rists on to the other person's hand like a tower, then we started, the rules were that we had to get the other person to not move thier hand so we can hammer their hands. For the next game we had to face the whiteboard then the leader in the front had to turn around and see the pattern the kiwi can leaders gave us the first group to finish and gets the actions right are the winners.
LI. To learn leadership. This week for Kiwi Can we learnt how leadership works. Our theme is positive relationships and out topic is fearless and fearplay. We had to work together as a class to get 5 points in each row.

Rounding up numbers

LI. To learn how to round up numbers. This week for maths we learnt how to round up numbers. Mrs. Howell gave us equations for us to answer by rounding up numbers. We had to answer all the seven questions that Mrs. Howell gave us. I answered the questions by adding the smallest number to the biggest number to make a tidy ten, then I subtracted the number that I added to my biggest number, after that I added the two numbers that I have in total, then I had my answer.

What's in a blogpost?

LI. To comprehend what's in a blogpost.  A blogpost is important because the veiwers need to understand what you're saying. To make sure people know what you're talking about here is a list of things you need for a blogpost...

  • A blurb
  • A LI (Learning Intention)
  • A DLO (Digital Learning Object)
  • Punctuation Marks
  • Labels and Titles
  • How you learnt, what you learnt, what you did, why you did it.
  • Images
  • Information
  • Paraghraps

Kiwi can

LI. To learn how to encourage other people. This week for Kiwi can our topic for this term is fearless and fearplay and our theme is positive relationships. I learned that I have the courage to do anything I want, I can play by the rules.

The little boat

The little boat

Once I was a little boat, who went out in the morning to go out to sea.
I survived every season of the year. My boat teared up but then the birds helped me
fix my boat.

Then I went to a island I didn’t think it was dangerous but there was a boy who threw a
bomb.
at me. I floated on top of the water I thought I was going sink but luckily some helpful
birds came to the rescue. I was amazed that little birds can fix a wrecked boat.
Next I was relieved but I still had to go to an island I thought, and thought,

and thought, finally I got an idea to sail and never stop until I was there. I sailed
to the island. I was finally there, I was relieved that I could sail to an island that

was far along the other side of the world.

Finally I was home. I sailed all the way to my home.

Commenting

Today I dicided to comment on Mojtaba's This vs That, I think Mojtaba did great job! I really liked how he told me that PBS was connected to the Olympics. I wanted to know if he thought it was easy. Here is the link to Mojtaba's blog.

QAR Tutankhamun

LI. To learn how to answer QAR questions. This week for reading we had to do QAR Tutankhamun. We had to answer seven QAR questions, either right there, think and search, author and me, and on my own, right there means it's in the text, think and search means that it's in the text but it not only in one place, author and me means that you have to make your own answer using the clues the author gives you, and on my own means that you have to answer the question on your own.

Simple maths strategies

LI. To learn how to use different strategies. This week for maths we had to create a DLO that shows different maths strategies. First we had to think of a two digit equation, I did 23 + 51 I did the number line strategy, the vertical maths strategy, the place value strategy, and the number bonds strategy. I think I did good.

Kiwi Sport

LI. To learn how to bat. This week for kiwi sport we learnt how to bat. We got split into two teams. We had to have our hands together, knuckles aligned with the bat, feets aligned with our shoulders, eyes looking at the softball, the bat on the right side of your shoulders. I didn't do that well but I did try. I think it was fun because I learnt a lot of stuff.

This vs That

LI. To learn how compare Olympics and PBS. This week for Inquiry must do we had to make a copy of a DLO comparing the Olympics and PBS. For the Olympics we had to write down the motto, creed, flag and the Olympic values.  For PBS we had to write down the motto, whakatauki, the PBS logo and the care values. We had to work in pairs, I worked with Sakina and Victoria. I think the information was easy to find. We had to go on websites to find some of the information. The Olympic motto was similar to the PBS motto because the PBS motto talks about learning and the Olympic motto talks about your abilities and how you need to train.
