Describing Wheel

LI: to create a describing wheel. 

A describing wheel contains words that are synonyms with eachother. As the words go to the end of the circle, they get in more depth of meaning. 

First, we thought of words that could describe culture and the meaning of culture. We used these words to start the describing wheel. After this, we think of other words that describe that starting word even better. 

When we completed the wheel and filled it with words, we made a TEEL paragraph. A TEEL paragraph contains: Topic sentence, Elaborate, Evidence and Linking sentence. Combining these attributes together creates a paragraph in which it can tell a lot about a certain topic. 

I enjoyed this activity because it helped me use these words more and I participated with my group.

Food Technology (Reflection)

LI: to apply our food technology skills to cook food and improve ourselves. 

Today we held our second tech session for the term at Tamaki College with Ms Heka.

Our menu today was, pikelets with ice cream and mixed berry syrup. To make this we needed to work in groups of three. My group had Leon and Spelman. 

The ingredients consisted of: baking powder, flour, eggs, milk, bananas and oil. First, we mixed the dry ingredients (flour and baking powder) together. After mixing the dry ingredients, we combined the milk and eggs. We mashed the bananas into a smooth consistency. This makes it easy to add into the mixture. 

After preparing the ingredients, Ms Heka instructed us to create the batter by mixing in the wet ingredients with the flour and baking powder. We mixed this until there were no lumps in the batter. Then we added the banana mixture to the batter. 

We set the batter aside and started the stove. As we waited for the oil to heat, we cleaned our kitchen. Then we started to put the batter on the pan, subsequently making pikelets.

Later on, when the pikelets were all made and there was no batter left, we put the pikelets in our containers. Ms Heka added the vanilla ice cream and mixed berry syrup onto our pikelets.

I enjoyed today's session of food tech because I enjoyed cooking food and working as a group. The food was delicious and I would like to make this dish again. 

Ko wai ahau?

Ellohay, my name is Farzana. I am a year 7 at Panmure Bridge School, my teachers are Mrs Anderson and Mrs Fisi’iahi. I come from Afghanistan but came to New Zealand in 2011. My favourite subjects in school are P.E and reading because I have the opportunity to learn new things and increase my reading skills. I have three favourite sports that are: volleyball, netball and cricket. I speak Farsi. My favourite food is sushi. In my free time I enjoy watching Netflix. My family consists of 8 people, my parents, my brother, my sisters and I. My two pets are cats. The goal I have set for 2021 is to take risks even if I don’t feel confident or other people’s opinion is not the same as mine. I am very excited to start learning in LS2.

Giant Panda Research

LI: to use our smart searching skills to find information about the giant panda.

Our focus for this challenge was based on writing TEEL paragraphs about giant pandas. After using our smart searching skills, we used the TEEL structure in order to write paragraphs. TEEL is the acronym for: topic sentence, elaborate, evidence and link sentence. 

First we researched about giant pandas and found information about them. After this, we made bullet point notes including the main points of our research. These notes helped create sentences with all the main ideas and made it understandable. 

After making the notes we started writing our TEEL paragraphs. TEEL paragraphs help us to expand our knowledge/ideas and formulate our thinking into informational pieces of text. 

We found this activity very enjoyable because we collaborated together to find out shocking information about pandas. One thing I learnt from this activity was that giant pandas are very close to extinction. 

Using Smart Images

LI: to understand how to use the explore tool.

Our challenge was based on creating a DLO instructing people about how to use the explore tool and attribute images.

To use the explore function, you need to click the insert button, then go to the 'image' tool. After this, press 'search the web'. Doing this should allow you to find images that have the creative common use. 

Attributing an image gives credit to the owner of the image and lets people know that you are able to use the image.

I found this challenge simple and trouble free because I am familiar with attributing and searching for images.

Food Technology (Reflection)

LI: to improve our food technology skills.

Today was our first technology session of the term at Tamaki College. 

When we arrived at Tamaki College, the year seven's went with Mrs Heka to the kitchen. In the kitchen, and Mrs Heka introduced herself and the rules in the kitchen. We got into groups, made a fruit salad and smoothies. 

I enjoyed today's session of tech and especially enjoyed working as a group to create the food.

Maths (Addition/Subtraction)

LI: to find and use the most efficient strategy to answer the question.

Our focus this week was based on finding the most efficient strategy to answer a question.

First we picked a set of equations that we thought challenged us the most. After this, we answered the problems by finding out the best and most efficient strategy to us. When I completed answering the questions, I created a DLO that showed the strategy I used.

Using the DLO, I created a screencastify which presented my ideas and thinking when I answered a question. 

I found this activity easy and enjoyable because it gave me the opportunity to talk and showcase my thinking and which strategy I found the most efficient.
