Cook Island Language Week

LS1 learnt about the Cook Island language.

I completed the months of the year which is one of the many Cook Island language tasks. In this task, I got an understanding about the pronunciation and spelling of the months of the year.

In the google presentation, I wrote down the months of the year in English and in the Cook Island language. I also provided a video of myself pronouncing the months so that people can copy me and pronounce the months of the year.

I enjoyed this activity and learnt many things about the Cook Island language.

SSR Selfie

Today I completed the SSR Selfie can-do. The objective of the SSR Selfie can-do is to learn how to summarise or retell a text. The book I read was called: 'The World's Most Amazing Battle Facts'. The book was very interesting and I learn many new things about battle facts. One thing I learned was that: In WWI a pitbull terrier names Stubby was awarded two medals for warning toops of a gas attack and for holding a German spy until American troops arrived.

Basic Facts Boxes

Today I completed basic fact boxes up to 20. The objective of this challenge is to get quick at answering basic fact questions. I answered the equations in 2 minutes and 12 seconds.

LI: To remember basic maths facts.

Venn Diagram | The Dippy Dinner Drippers | Space Food

Compare and contrast is an activity that looks at the differences and similarities between two things. The Dippy Dinner Drippers is a book about the Dippy family being very messy eaters. The book Space Food is about a class planning a trip to go to Mars and finding out how to preserve food.

The similarities between the two books are that: the two books are fiction, they both have messages, they are both narratives and they both talk about food.

The differences for The Dippy Dinner Drippers are that: it talks about how eating messily will attract animals, all of the book is fiction, it ends with a cliffhanger and ect. The differences for Space Food is that: it talks about the different ways of preserving food, the book has factual information, it talks about bacteria and viruses and ect.

Comparing and contrasting can help to understand and synthesize the information across the texts.

Similes

Similies compare two things using 'as ... as' or 'like'. Similies are figurative language.

When the simile uses an adjective, people use 'as'.

When the simile uses a verb, people use 'like'.

Similes help people to compare two things with figurative language.

LI: To describe things by simile.
