Rippa Rugby with Justice & Andrew

LI: To learn the basics of rippa rugby.

This week for kiwi sport LS1 was learning how to rip rippas, catching and throwing. Our coach was Andrew & Justice.

Rippa rugby is a sport were we put two tags on our waists and the other team has to try and rip the rippas from the opponents. If you do that then the person who got tagged has to pass the rugby ball to another person from their team. If your team gets tagged 5 times or the chosen number then it is a hand over and you have to give the ball to the other team.

Next we were practising throwing and catching. We lined up behind four cones and the first group had the ball. The person in the front of the groups had to run and pass the ball backwards to the first person in the group on the right. We had to catch by joining our hands to look like a 'W'.

After that we played a real game of rippa rugby. There was a green team and a red team, I was in the red team. We had to tap and pass. Our team got two tries in the beginning. On the last try it was unspecified if it was a try or rip. The other team also got two tries.

I enjoyed this weeks session on Rippa Rugby. I think that I could improve on ripping rippas.

SSR Selfie | The Circulatory System

LI: To summarise and retell a text.

Today I read a book called 'The Circulatory System'. The book was about how each area of the circulatory system works such as: white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets, the human heart, body temperature and etc. The most interesting thing I learnt was that;  Platelets attach to one another and form a scab so when you get hurt it stops the blood from getting any viruses.

Compensating | Rounding

Compensating in maths is the procedure of giving an amount of numbers to make the other number tidy. For example: 78 + 80 = ???. I add 2 to 78 to round it to 80 then I add 80 to 80 which is 160. After that I  subtract 2 from 160 which leaves me with 158. 158 is the answer.

In the slide show I showed six examples of compensating. I also made a number line as a visual example. Compensating is a faster and easier strategy rather than just adding an equation like '78 + 80' together.

LI: To solve addition and subtraction equations by compensating with tidy numbers.

Explorers & Adventurers | Inquiry

Explorers and Adventurers are people who travel and discover new things.

Explorers are people who travel to discover new things and record them for their community. Such as: Zheng He, Ibn Buttata, Nobu Shirase, Tupaia & ect.

Adventurers are people who travel to take part in something for themselves. Such as: Robert Ballard, Leif Erikson, Bear Grylls, Sir Peter Blake & ect.

Explorers and Adventurers need to have or show many different attitude and attributes. Such as: Being Open-Minded, being Knowledgeable, being reflective and ect. People need to be open-minded so that they have the chance to change their own and others mindset. They need to be knowledgeable so that they can take their knowledge and use it for an emergency or when its needed. They also need to be reflective so that they can use their past experiences for the future.

Both Explorers and Adventurers travel to new places and have similar qualities although their goals are different.

Simple Sentences | Writing

LI: To write meaningful and interesting simple sentences.

A simple sentence is a sentence containing one idea. An idea is an action performed by one actor.

A simple sentence can be made by following the steps that consider the actor, action, and description.

Simple sentences have one idea but don't need to be short in order to be a simple sentence.

Legal & Illegal Images | Cybersmart

Legal images are images that can be used with permission by the law. Illegal images are images that cannot be used without permission by the law or the owner of the image.

Image creators give legal permission to use their images by adding a sharing license. Go on the website that the image is uploaded and check the license, if the license says something like 'All Rights Reserved' that means people are not allowed to use.

It is important to use legal images to help creators, attributing, and so people don't offend the law by using legal images.

Using websites that have free images is a good way of finding legal images. Here are two sites that contain free photos;

Keywords | Reading

Keywords are words that help to research specific information about a chosen topic. They can also give appropriate information to young learners.

Keywords can be used to find information that is understandable and readable by children so that the young learners can understand what information they are reading or using.

Keywords are for narrowing down the information gained by an internet search so that the information researched relates to the topic.

Keywords are useful tools that should be used in every search on the internet.
