Maori | Ataata | Korero

LI: To understand and translate more about the Maori language.

This week for Maori we were learning about why the macron is used in the spelling of Maori words and why Maori people ask other people 'Where are you from?' (Nō Hea Koe?). Macrons are used to indicate mid-tone use in the sentence which differs from the expected sound others might think. It can also change the meaning to the word. Maori people ask where we are from so that they can make a link with other people and also to make a link with that person’s family, understand where they are from or where they had grown up and also to link with their whanau and their tribal group. My group and I found this information on the videos. Ataata translates to 'video'. We also did another google document and we had to ask 'Nō Hea Koe?' to other people in our groups and they had to find the place they were born in and translate that into Maori. Korero translates into 'conversation/discussion'.

Legal Images | Cybersmart

LI: To understand the legal use of images.

This week for cybersmart we were learning about legal images. We were doing a challenge. Our challenge to complete was to find an image by pressing insert on a google drawing, then pressing image then we searched what image we wanted. Finding an image and discribing what we did to find the image was our challenge but Mr. Wong added another challenge and it was to attribute the image too. We attribute images to give credit to the owner or photographer of the image.

Basic Facts Boxes

LI: To remember basic maths facts.

Today I decided to do basic facts boxes. I did the speed demon challenge up to twenty. The time I got was three minutes and nineteen seconds. I think I did pretty good.

SSR Selfie

LI: To summarise and retell a text.

Today I did ssr selfie. The book I read was 'Magnetism'. It was about how magnetism works and what it is. The most interesting thing I learnt was that the Earth is a giant magnet.

Inquiry | Businesses

LI: To learn what a business is.

This week for inquiry we had to fill in a google sheet of the two categories that we divided the businesses in. We had to divide the group of businesses to goods and services, then we had to divide from the groups into more categories. After we divided the groups we stuck the papers onto a bigger piece of paper in the categories we divided in them.

Origami Planes | Measurement

LI: To use statistical and scientific methods to study the effect on wingspan and area on lift.

This week for maths we chose one of two plane designs and we had to calculate the wing area, wing span and fuselage length. The wing span for my plane was 18.8 centimeters. The wing area for my plane was 24,934 milimeters squared and my fuselage length was 29.6 centimetres. We had to make a diagram showing our measurements, plane and the parts of the plane. We got taught how to fold the plane by Mr. Wong.

Writing | Figurative Language

LI: To investigate figurative language.

This week for writing we were learning about figurative language. There are five different figurative languages. They are: Simile, Metaphor, Personification, Hyperbole & Understatement. A simile is when a comparison is made using the words 'like' or 'as'. A metaphor is when a comparison is made without using 'like' or 'as'. Personification is when an object or idea is given human abilities. A hyperbole is over-exaggerating something to have more emotion. An understatement is language with less strength than anticipated (opposite of hyperbole). We had to make a slide deck explaining the meanings of the figurative languages and examples of them.
